Demonstration of a Role for Dot1l In MLL-Rearranged Leukemia Using a Conditional Loss of Function Model

2010

Abstract Abstract 62 Leukemias associated with translocations of the Mixed Lineage Leukemia (MLL) gene account for a significant percentage of both AML and ALL, and often carry a poor prognosis. The exact molecular mechanisms by which MLL-fusion proteins transform cells are incompletely understood. One proposed model involves the aberrant activation of transcriptional programs through epigenetic changes that ultimately lead to leukemogenesis. The histone 3 lysine 79 (H3K79) methyltransferase Dot1l has been shown to be recruited by the most common MLL fusion proteins, and MLL fusion protein target loci are associated with H3K79 methylation (H3K79me2/3) in mouse models and MLL-rearranged huma…

A Morphological Clustering Method for daily solar radiation curves

2011

Abstract We present a new method based on Mathematical Morphology techniques for the classification of solar radiation curves that we call MfCM. The main advantage of using MfCM as opposed to daily clearness index distributions is that it allows us to keep the dynamics of the solar radiance curves in the analysis: both cloud transitions and variability in direct radiation are simultaneously taken into account. To illustrate our proposal, we use a set of real radiation data collected in a location sited in southern Spain.

Controlling the Morphology of Au–Pd Heterodimer Nanoparticles by Surface Ligands

2018

Controlling the morphology of noble-metal nanoparticles is mandatory to tune specific properties such as catalytic and optical behavior. Heterodimers consisting of two noble metals have been synthesized, so far mostly in aqueous media using selective surfactants or chemical etching strategies. We report a facile synthesis for Au@Pd and Pd@Au heterodimer nanoparticles (NPs) with morphologies ranging from segregated domains (heteroparticles) to core-shell structures by applying a seed-mediated growth process with Au and Pd seed nanoparticles in 1-octadecene (ODE), which is a high-boiling organic solvent. The as-synthesized oleylamine (OAm) functionalized Au NPs led to the formation of OAm-Au@…

Rediscovery of Cerroneuroterus apenninus (Trotter, 1923) (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipini) a valid species from Italy with description and neotype d…

2021

Neuroterus apenninus Trotter, 1923 associated with a Cerris section oak, Quercus cerris L., was rediscovered in Italy in 2017. Alessandro Trotter (1903) described a leaf gall collected on Q. cerris from the Italian Apennines; he did not obtain the gall inductor and ascribed the galls to the genus Neuroterus, based on morphological similarity with other Neuroterus galls. We have found the same gall and obtained the gall inducer. Detailed study of morphological characters of adults revealed that the species belongs to the genus Cerroneuroterus Melika & Pujade-Villar, 2010. The asexual generation of Cerroneuroterus apenninus comb. n. is described for the first time, a neotype is designated…

Assessment of data availability influence on integrated urban drainage modelling uncertainty

2009

In urban water quality management, several models are connected and integrated for analysing the fate of pollutants from the sources in the urban catchment to the final recipient; classical problems connected with the selection and calibration of parameters are amplified by the complexity of the modelling approach increasing their uncertainty. The present paper aims at studying the influence of reductions in available data on the modelling response uncertainty with respect to the different integrated modelling outputs (both considering quantity and quality variables). At this scope, a parsimonious integrated home-made model has been used allowing for analysing the combinative effect of data…

Synthesis, physico-chemical and biological study of trialkylsiloxyalkyl amine coated iron oxide/oleic acid magnetic nanoparticles for the treatment o…

2008

New original water-soluble magnetic nanoparticles based on natural components, magnetite–oleic acid–biologically active silyl modified alkanolamine, were synthesized. Physico-chemical characterization, i.e. magnetic properties, concentration of magnetite, size of iron oxide core, of the nanoparticles synthesized and the corresponding magnetic fluids obtained, was carried out. Magnetic fluids were screened for in vitro cytotoxicity concerning human fibrosarcoma (HT-1080), mouse hepatoma (MG-22A) monolayer tumour cell lines and normal mouse fibroblasts (NIH 3T3). They possess low or moderate cytotoxic effects, are non-toxic, exhibit high NO-induction ability and strongly change tumour cell mo…

Histochemistry of the Mitochondrial System

1964

It has been customary to introduce any discussion on the mitochondrion by summing up its functions as the energy center of the cell. Because of the extensive reviews and symposia in this field in recent years such an introduction would be repetitious and will therefore be omitted. — The relative ease by which mitochondria can be isolated from various cells and the considerable purity of such fractions permitted an analysis of the overall functions of mitochondria and the extrapolation of these results, on a statistical basis, to a single mitochondrion. Further fragmentation of isolated mitochondria into sub-units that carry segments of the functional activity of the whole organelle signific…

A critical conspectus of ItalianIsoetes(Isoetaceae)

2014

The work on the Isoetaceae account for the Critical Flora of Italy has resulted in a new, synonymic inventory of Italian Isoetes taxa, based on herbarium studies, observation by scanning electron microscopy and critical re-examination of the previously published works. Ten species are listed. The names I. longissima and I. gymnocarpa are restored as correct, to replace I. velata and I. subinermis, respectively. Eighteen lectotypes, one epitype and one neotype are designated. A dichotomous key to Italian taxa is provided.
