Morphology, reorganization and stability of mesomorphic nanocrystals in isotactic polypropylene

Abstract The morphology and thermodynamic stability of crystals of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) were analyzed as a function of the path of crystallization by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Samples were melt-crystallized at different rates of cooling using a “controlled rapid cooling technique”, and subsequently annealed at elevated temperature. Mesomorphic equi-axed domains with a size less than 20 nm were obtained by fast cooling from the melt at a rate larger about 100 K s−1. Aim: To visualize by Atomic Force Microscopy the alterations induced on Enterococcus. faecalis surface after treatment with 2 types of laser: Erbium chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser and Diode laser. Material and Methods: Bacterial suspensions from overnight cultures of E. faecalis were irradiated during 30 seconds with the laser-lights at 1 W and 2 W of power, leaving one untreated sample as control. The present study examined the enamel surface after in vitro topical treatments with a neutral 2% NaF solution. For minimising the risk of artefacts, samples were inspected without pre-treatment as fresh, naturally wet specimens by complementary techniques: variable pressure electron microscopy (VP-SEM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). VP-SEM provided information on the surface morphology, whereas CLSM allowed non-destructive visualisation of subsurface areas. Tetrathiotetracene thin film morphology and electrical properties

The electrical properties of organic thin films are determined by their chemical constituents and the morphology of the films deposited. In this paper the morphology of vacuum sublimed (7?10-6 mbar) tetrathiotetracene (TTT) thin films is shown to be strongly affected by the thermal deposition temperature (222-350 K) and rate of deposition. Mostly needle-like morphologies are identified by scanning electron microscopy. Optimal TTT purity (a pre-requisite for device preparation via subsequent oxidation) is evidenced by their initially low electrical conductivity. Abstract Hydrogenation of nitroderivatives (4-nitrostyrene or 7-nitro-1-tetralone) was performed using as support a silica mesoporous material with high specific surface area (1091 m2/g) and a bimodal pore size distribution (UVM-7). Gold and/or TiO2 were deposited inside the pores of this support with the aim to achieve high activity and selectivity for this reaction. The morphology and structure of the powders have been characterized by adsorption-desorption isotherms, XRD, TEM, STEM-HAADF, XPS and ATR-FTIR. Young’s modulus and indirect morphological analysis of Bi2Se3nanoribbons by resonance measurements

An electrostatically induced resonance behaviour of individual topological insulator Bi2Se3 nanoribbons grown by a catalyst free vapour-solid synthesis was studied in situ by scanning electron microscopy. It was demonstrated that the relation between the resonant frequencies of vibrations in orthogonal planes can be applied to distinguish the nanoribbons with rectangular cross-sections from the nanoribbons having step-like morphology (terraces). The average Young's modulus of the Bi2Se3 nanoribbons with rectangular cross-sections was found to be 44 ± 4 GPa.
Synthesis of self-assembled α-GaOOH microrods and 3D hierarchical architectures with flower like morphology and their conversion to α-Ga2O3

Abstract This report reveals the methodology for the fabrication of α-GaOOH micro rods and micro flowers from gallium nitrate with two different complexing agents. α-GaOOH self-assembled 3D hierarchical architecture, comprising of nanorods and nanoribbbons with a flower like morphology, is fabricated under benign hydrothermal conditions. Calcination of α-GaOOH results in formation of α-Ga 2 O 3 with the retention of morphology. Splitting of Surface-Immobilized Multicompartment Micelles into Clusters upon Charge Inversion

International audience; We investigate a morphological transition of surface-immobilized triblock terpolymer micelles: the splitting into well-defined clusters of satellite micelles upon pH changes. The multicompartment micelles are formed in aqueous solution of ABC triblock terpolymers consisting of a hydrophobic polybutadiene block, a weak polyanionic poly(methacrylic acid) block, and a weak polycationic poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) block. They are subsequently immobilized on silicon wafer surfaces by dip-coating. Theoretical approach for determining the relation between the morphology and surface magnetism of Co3O4

Abstract Precisely controlling the different aspects of the morphology and magnetic properties of metal oxides are fundamental to materials design. A theoretical approach, based on the Wulff construction and magnetization density (M) index, is presented to clarify the relation between the morphology and surface magnetism. The M index allows us to evaluate the uncompensated spins at the (1 0 0), (1 1 0), (1 1 1) and (1 1 2) surfaces of Co3O4 with a spinel structure. The investigated morphologies show an excellent agreement with the experimental results, with the main contribution coming from the (1 0 0) and (1 1 1) magnetic planes.
