Crystal growth of ZnO micro and nanostructures by PVT on c-sapphire and amorphous quartz substrates

Abstract ZnO micro and nanostructures in the form of tripods, grains, arrows and wires have been grown at temperatures as low as 500–300  ∘ C by a vapour transport method without catalysis and using a well selected value of the carrier gas flow. A transition state between grains and nanowires is reported being characterized by arrow-like structures which are constituted by a pyramidal head and a tail that is growing from the basal plane of the head. Synthesis of Titanate Nanotubes Directly Coated with USPIO in Hydrothermal Conditions: A New Detectable Nanocarrier

International audience; Abstract: For the first time, titanate nanotubes (TiONts) coated with USPIO (ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide) without polymer functionalization and directly obtained during TiONts formation is reported. The coating of these tubes was performed directly during the TiONts hydrothermal synthesis. After this treatment, in strongly basic conditions, USPIO particles kept their structure and magnetic properties while their size distribution slightly increased. By coupling zeta-potential measurements and TEM observations at different pH it appeared that interactions between nanotubes and USPIO were not electrostatic. Adhesive joining of Aluminum AA6082: the effect of resin and surface treatment

Abstract In this work the effects of both the substrate surface condition and the adhesive properties on single-lap aluminium joint resistance were analysed. The aluminium sheets were mechanically treated with two abrasive surfaces evaluating the induced roughness; four different resins were used in adhesion tests. Moreover, wettability tests were performed in order to evaluate the effect of the above-mentioned parameters on the substrate/adhesive interaction. A design of experiments was defined in order to quantify the effect of the considered factors and their correlation.

Evolution of the morphology and characterzation of compatibilized PBT/EVA blends prepared by reactive extrusion

In this work, the possibility of preparing compatibilized blends of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer by reactive extrusion in the presence of an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer (EAA) and a bisoxazoline compound (PBO) as compatibilization promoters has been studied. In addition, the evolution of the morphology of the blends under different annealing conditions in the presence and absence of the compatibilizing promoters has been studied. Binary blends of PBT and EVA showed behavior typical of incompatible blends with a gross morphology and bad mechanical performance. Polymeric scaffolds prepared via thermally induced phase separation: Tuning of structure and morphology

Scaffolds suitable for tissue engineering applications like dermal reconstruction were prepared by Thermally Induced Phase Separation (TIPS) starting from a ternary solution PLLA/dioxane/water. The experimental protocol consisted of three consecutive steps, a first quench from the homogeneous solution to an appropriate demixing temperature (within the metastable region), a holding stage for a given residence time, and a final quench from the demixing temperature to a low temperature (within the unstable region).
