Real-time 3D movements analysis for a medical device intended for maintaining functional independence in aged adults at home
2016
We propose in this manuscript a realtime3D movement analysis system for inhomefunctionalabilities assessment in aged adults. As a first step, the purpose is to maintain the functionalindependence of this population and to allow an earlier detection of a motor decompensation inorder to facilitate a rehabilitation process. To quantify the equilibrium quality of a subject, webuilt a system using the Kinect sensor in order to analyze a simple clinical test validated in geriatricrehabilitation: the Timed Up and Go (TUG). Three experiments conducted in heterogeneousenvironments (laboratory, day hospital and home) showed good measurement reliability of theidentified parameters. In particular, they…
Analysis of the role of communication devices shared on the internet - web 2.0 in the process of emergence of public sphere and democratization of Pa…
2013
In this thesis, the first study of its kind, the role of internet specially that of social networking shared devices on web 2.0 is analyzed in the process of emergence of Public Sphere – the notion introduced by Habermas, and ultimately in the process of democratization of civil society in Pakistan. Lawyers’ Movement (March 2007 – March 2009) of Pakistan is selected to analyze this role as this successful movement for the rule of law in the country is solely responsible for a fundamental democratic change in the democratic culture and socio-political set up of Pakistan by bringing a vibrant and active civil society in the lime light of country’s political and social life. The content in Paki…
Semantic Analysis of the Driving Environment in Urban Scenarios
2021
Understanding urban scenes require recognizing the semantic constituents of a scene and the complex interactions between them. In this work, we explore and provide effective representations for understanding urban scenes based on in situ perception, which can be helpful for planning and decision-making in various complex urban environments and under a variety of environmental conditions. We first present a taxonomy of deep learning methods in the area of semantic segmentation, the most studied topic in the literature for understanding urban driving scenes. The methods are categorized based on their architectural structure and further elaborated with a discussion of their advantages, possibl…

Une quête d'exactitude : machines, algèbre et géométrie pour la construction traditionnelle des équations différentielles
2015
In La Géométrie, Descartes proposed a “balance” between geometric constructions and symbolic manipulation with the introduction of suitable ideal machines. In particular, Cartesian tools were polynomial algebra (analysis) and a class of diagrammatic constructions (synthesis). This setting provided a classification of curves, according to which only the algebraic ones were considered “purely geometrical.” This limit was overcome with a general method by Newton and Leibniz introducing the infinity in the analytical part, whereas the synthetic perspective gradually lost importance with respect to the analytical one—geometry became a mean of visualization, no longer of construction. Descartes’s…
