Distributed Adaptive Consensus Tracking Control of Uncertain High-order Nonlinear Systems under Directed Graph Condition

In this paper, we investigate the output consensus tracking problem for a class of high-order nonlinear systems subjected to unknown parameters and uncertain external disturbances. A novel backstepping based distributed adaptive control scheme is presented under the directed communication status. For the subsystems without direct access to time-varying desired trajectory, local estimators are introduced and the corresponding adaptive laws are designed in a totally distributed fashion. Reducing the observation error in a WSN through a consensus-based subspace projection

An essential process in a Wireless Sensor Network is the noise mitigation of the measured data, by exploiting their spatial correlation. A widely used technique to achieve this reduction is to project the measured data into a proper subspace. We present a low complexity and distributed algorithm to perform this projection. Distributed adaptive leader–follower and leaderless consensus control of a class of strict-feedback nonlinear systems : a unified approach

In this paper, distributed adaptive consensus for a class of strict-feedback nonlinear systems under directed topology condition is investigated. Both leader–follower and leaderless cases are considered in a unified framework. To design distributed controller for each subsystem, a local compensatory variable is generated based on the signals collected from its neighbors. Quality Assessment of Reconstruction and Relighting from RTI Images: Application to Manufactured Surfaces

In this paper, we propose to evaluate the quality of the reconstruction and relighting from images acquired by a Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) device. Three relighting models, namely the PTM, HSH and DMD, are evaluated using PSNR and SSIM. A visual assessment of how the reconstructed surfaces are perceived is also carried out through a sensory experiment. This study allows to estimate the relevance of these models to reproduce the appearance of the manufactured surfaces. It also shows that DMD reproduces the most accurate reconstruction/relighting to an acquired measurement and that a higher sampling density don't mean necessarily a higher perceptual quality.

Abstract In the paper, a numerical and experimental study was carried out to highlight the effect of the distance d between the weld seam and the reinforcement on the residual stress distribution in Friction Stir Welded AA6082-T6 structures. An L-shaped profile was welded to a sheet metal with varying tool rotation and distance d from the weld seam. The Cut Compliance method was used to determine the resulting longitudinal residual stress. Learning of Cooperative Behaviour in Robot Populations

This paper addresses convergence and equilibrium properties of game theoretic learning algorithms in robot populations using simple and broadly applicable reward/cost models of cooperation between robotic agents. New models for robot cooperation are proposed by combining regret based learning methods and network evolution models. Results of mean-field game theory are employed in order to show the asymptotic second moment boundedness in the variation of cooperative behaviour. The behaviour of the proposed models are tested in simulation results, which are based on sample networks and a single lane traffic flow case study.

Power losses in power-split CVTs: A fast black-box approximate method

Abstract This paper addresses the mechanical losses of planetary transmissions, with particular attention to power-split CVTs in their hybrid electric versions. It provides unified layout-independent analytical relationships, which can be used for both analysis, design and control purposes, and a simplified approach; the latter overcomes the necessity to segment the operating range of the power-split CVT in order to keep its loss model physically consistent. An example of application to a real hybrid electric PS-CVT is performed to show the simplicity, accuracy and generality of the proposed method.

Method for 3D fibre reconstruction on a microrobotic platform

Automated handling of a natural fibrous object requires a method for acquiring the three-dimensional geometry of the object, because its dimensions cannot be known beforehand. This paper presents a method for calculating the three-dimensional reconstruction of a paper fibre on a microrobotic platform that contains two microscope cameras. The method is based on detecting curvature changes in the fibre centreline, and using them as the corresponding points between the different views of the images. Ultrasonic phased array inspection of a Wire + Arc Additive Manufactured (WAAM) sample with intentionally embedded defects

In this study, Wire + Arc Additive Manufacture (WAAM) was employed to manufacture a steel specimen with intentionally embedded defects which were subsequently used for calibration of an ultrasonic phased array system and defect sizing. An ABB robot was combined with the Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) Gas Metal Arc (GMA) process to deposit 20 layers of mild steel. Tungsten-carbide balls (ø1-3 mm) were intentionally embedded inside the additive structure after the 4th, 8th, 12th and 18th layers to serve as ultrasonic reflectors, simulating defects within the WAAM sample.
