Predicting Individual Differences from Brain Responses to Music using Functional Network Centrality

Individual differences are known to modulate brain responses to music. Recent neuroscience research suggests that each individual has unique and fundamentally stable functional brain connections irrespective of the task they perform. 77 participants’ functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) responses were measured while continuously listening to music. Using a graph-theory-based approach, we modeled whole-brain functional connectivity. We then calculate voxel-wise eigenvector centrality and subsequently use it to classify gender and musical expertise using binary Support Vector Machine (SVM). The framework of embodied cognition has challenged the modular view of a language-cognition divide by suggesting that meaning-retrieval critically involves the sensory-motor system. Despite extensive research into the neural mechanisms underlying language-motor coupling, it remains unclear how the motor system might be differentially engaged by different levels of linguistic abstraction and language proficiency. PURPOSE: We present a case of transient global amnesia (TGA) onset in a 52-year-old male with a medical history of migraine. METHODS: Patient was taken to ER by his colleagues which reported that after an emotional stress he suddenly appeared perplexed and started asking repetitive questions. In ER a neurological examination excluded other neurological signs or symptoms and it was confirmed that cognitive impairment was limited to the amnesia domain; electroencephalography was unremarkable and he had no history of epileptic seizures or head trauma. Bakalaura darba pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot, vai perspektīvas maiņa no savas uz cita perspektīvu var paaugstināt viedas spriešanas rādītājus problēmsituāciju risināšanā. 142 eksperimenta dalībnieki vecumā no 18 līdz 60 gadiem pēc nejaušības principa tika sadalīti četrās eksperimentālās grupās, kas risināja savu vai cita cilvēka problēmu no savas vai cita cilvēka perspektīvas. Starp grupām nepastāvēja statistiski nozīmīgas atšķirības dzimuma, vecuma, izglītības un nodarbinātības rādītājos. PURPOSE/INTRODUCTION: To assess the usefulness of weight-bearing examination of the ankle performed with a dedicated MRI scanner in the evaluation of patients with clinical evidence of lateral ankle instability. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated ankle MR examinations of 18 patients, performed between September 2008 and January 2009. Spin echo T1W, Turbo Spine Echo T2W, 3D Steady-State (SSE) and Short Tau Inversion Recovery (STIR) images were acquired with a 0.2 T scanner (G-Scan, Esaote Spa, Genoa, Italy) in both weight-bearing position and normal conventional supine position.
