New ECCO model documents for Material Deposit and Transfer Agreements in compliance with the Nagoya Protocol
2020
The European Culture Collections Organisation presents two new model documents for Material Deposit Agreement (MDA) and Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) designed to enable microbial culture collection leaders to draft appropriate agreement documents for, respectively, deposit and supply of materials from a public collection. These tools provide guidance to collections seeking to draft an MDA and MTA, and are available in open access to be used, modified, and shared. The MDA model consists of a set of core fields typically included in a deposit form to collect relevant information to facilitate assessment of the status of the material under access and benefit sharing (ABS) legislation. It a…
Besançon at the decolonization time : the decolonization process studied a medium-sized French ciy from 1945 to the 1960s
2016
This doctoral thesis aims at assessing the impact of the decolonisation process on the population of Besançon. The study of an urban community involves taking an interest in various historiographical fields (such as the political and cultural history of both colonisation and decolonisation, as well as the Cold War). From a people's history perspective, our purpose is to grasp how people experienced decolonisation (how they understood, felt, thought, acted). This research covers the period from 1945 up to the 1960s. A two-angled approach has been applied, including comparisons on local and national levels and a thorough investigation of Besançon's social environment in and of itself. The div…
Complicanze in chirurgia tiroidea: ipoparatiroidismo sintomatico post-operatorio.Incidenza, note di tecnica chirurgica, prevenzione e trattamento.
2006
Introduction: Total thyroidectomy has a definite role in the management of malignant and benign thyroid disorders, with minimal complications and rare postoperative mortality. Even though thyroid surgery is quite safe, mechanical damage, devascularization or inadvertent removal of the parathyroid glands are possible. The aim of this study is to report report the personal surgical experience and to define some of the pathologic and clinical characteristics of unintentional parathyroidectomy and post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia Materials and methods: A retrospective-observational study was carried on 313 thyroidectomies from January 2000 to January 2004 (60 males and 253 females), mean age 41 …
Architectures and protocols for mobile computing applications: a reconfigurable approach
2004
This work deals with reconfigurable control functions and protocols for supporting mobile computing applications in heterogeneous wireless systems like cellular networks and WLANs. The control functions are implemented in a software module, named Reconfigurable Access module for MObile computiNg applications (RAMON), placed in mobile and/or base stations. RAMON operates on abstract models of the main communication functions of a wireless systems (e.g., transmission over the radio channel, coding end error recovery, capacity sharing and packet scheduling, handover, congestion control, etc.). RAMON algorithms are programmed with reference to the abstract models, independently of specific radi…
Uplink DPCCH Gating of Inactive UEs in Continuous Packet Connectivity Mode for HSUPA
2007
In order to further improve the packet performance in the UMTS FDD system, uplink dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH) gating as a scheme is proposed in 3GPP under the work item "continuous connectivity for packet data users". In this paper, the uplink DPCCH gating concept is described and analyzed on both a qualitative and a quantitative level. And the system performance of different gating patterns used in the scheme was investigated by analytical prediction and system level simulations with different channel profiles. As shown, the selection of the gating pattern has a significant influence on the system performance, which is correlated with the uplink data transmission activity an…
Eettisen arvotietoisuutemme kehittymisestä
2010
EETTISEN ARVOTIETOISUUTEMME KEHITTYMISESTÄ Samppa Koivula Filosofia/maisteriohjelma Pro gradu-tutkielma Yhteiskuntatieteiden ja filosofian laitos Jyväskylän yliopisto Ohjaaja: Jussi Kotkavirta Lokakuu 2010 124 sivua Tämän tutkielman tavoitteena on ollut kuvata ihmisen eettisen arvotietoisuuden kehittymisen prosessia yksilön näkökulmasta. Tutkielman teoreettisena pääviitekehyksenä on käytetty Platonin teoriaa ihmissielun kolmesta tasosta. Tähän pääviitekehykseen liittyen, yksilön näkökulman vahvistamiseksi, on peilattu André Comte-Sponvillen teoriaa rakkauden kolmestatasosta. Kontrastin luomiseksi on myös tarkasteltu muutamia sellaisia filosofeja (Aristoteles,Nietzsche) ja aatesuuntia (Freud…
Laser-induced torques in metallic antiferromagnets
2021
We study the laser-induced torques in the antiferromagnet (AFM) Mn$_2$Au. We find that even linearly polarized light may induce laser-induced torques in Mn$_2$Au, i.e., the light does not have to be circularly polarized. The laser-induced torques in Mn$_2$Au are comparable in magnitude to those in the ferromagnets Fe, Co and FePt at optical frequencies. We also compute the laser-induced torques at terahertz (THz) frequencies and compare them to the spin-orbit torques (SOTs) excited by THz laser-pulses. We find the SOTs to be dominant at THz frequencies for the laser-field strengths used in experiments. Additionally, we show that the matrix elements of the spin-orbit interaction (SOI) can be…
Density-functional tight-binding for beginners
2009
This article is a pedagogical introduction to density-functional tight-binding (DFTB) method. We derive it from the density-functional theory, give the details behind the tight-binding formalism, and give practical recipes for parametrization: how to calculate pseudo-atomic orbitals and matrix elements, and especially how to systematically fit the short-range repulsions. Our scope is neither to provide a historical review nor to make performance comparisons, but to give beginner's guide for this approximate, but in many ways invaluable, electronic structure simulation method--now freely available as an open-source software package, hotbit.
Electrical detection of the spin reorientation transition in antiferromagnetic TmFeO3 thin films by spin Hall magnetoresistance
2020
TmFeO$_3$ (TFO) is a canted antiferromagnet that undergoes a spin reorientation transition (SRT) with temperature between 82 K and 94 K in single crystals. In this temperature region, the N\'eel vector continuously rotates from the crystallographic $c$-axis (below 82 K) to the $a$-axis (above 94 K). The SRT allows for a temperature control of distinct antiferromagnetic states without the need for a magnetic field, making it apt for applications working at THz frequencies. For device applications, thin films of TFO are required as well as an electrical technique for reading out the magnetic state. Here we demonstrate that orthorhombic TFO thin films can be grown by pulsed laser deposition an…
