The aim of the present study was to investigate whether parental daily distress in terms of negative emotions is associated with the daily variation in parental use of psychological control with their children. Data are from the 2017/2018 international Health Behaviour in School-aged Children survey which used proportionate sampling among adolescents aged 11 to 15 years old (n=228,979). This case study explores how two Hungarian children argue for their choices in a decision- making task in which they were asked to pick objects useful on a deserted island. The study involves an analysis of the multimodal data of the video-recorded tasks, carried out as pair-work, and sociometric background data that were collected in order to build an initial understanding of the participants’ social relations.
