The Generalized Model for the Description of Prompt Neutrons in the Low-energy Fission

Abstract The generalized model for the description of neutron emission from the spontaneous and neutron-induced fission in the energy interval up to 20 MeV is developed. For accurate calculations of nucleon composition and excitation energy of the fissioning nucleus at the scission point, the time-dependent statistical model including the pre-equilibrium neutron emission and nuclear friction effects is used. For each member of the compound nucleus ensemble at the scission point, the primary fission-fragment characteristics such as kinetic and excitation energies and yields are calculated using the scission-point fission model with nuclear shell and pairing effects, and based on the multimod…

Transition from Prolate to Oblate to Triaxial Shapes in158Yb

The decay of the entry states in ISIYb populated in the reactions of 149 MeV ,oNe with ,44Nd and lUNd has been investigated with a 4" multidetector system gated by a Ge counter. The average excitation energy, the ,.-ray spectra and the angular distribu tions as a function of multiplicity show several changes in the ,.-ray decay. These changes suggest a transition from prolate to particle aligned oblate connguration at low spin. At 1- 38-48 collective transitions with dipole and quad rupole component possibly built on high K single particle states are observed. Furthennore, above 1- 48 the dipole component disappears suggesting a further change toward more triaxial shape.
Pseudorapidity Density of Charged Particles inp+PbCollisions atsNN=5.02 TeV

The charged-particle pseudorapidity density measured over four units of pseudorapidity in nonsingle-diffractive p + Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV is presented. The average value at midrapidity is measured to be 16.81 +/- 0.71 (syst), which corresponds to 2.14 +/- 0.17 (syst) per participating nucleon, calculated with the Glauber model. This is 16% lower than in nonsingle-diffractive pp collisions interpolated to the same collision energy and 84% higher than in d + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 0.2 TeV. The measured pseudorapidity density in p + Pb collisions is compared to model predictions and provides new constraints on the description of …
Gamma rays as probe of fission and quasi-fission dynamics in the reaction 32S + 197Au near the Coulomb barrier

International audience; Compound nucleus fission and quasi-fission are both binary decay channels whose common properties make the experimental separation between them difficult. A way to achieve this separation could be to probe the angular momentum of the binary fragments. This can be done detecting gamma rays in coincidence with the two fragments. As a case study, the reaction 32S + 197Au near the Coulomb barrier has been performed at the Tandem ALTO facility at IPN ORSAY. ORGAM and PARIS, two different gamma detectors arrays, are coupled with the CORSET detector, a two-arm time-of-flight spectrometer. Measurements of mass-dependent azimuthal anisotropy in central p + Au, d + Au, and He3 + Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV

We present measurements of the transverse- momentum dependence of elliptic flow v2 for identified pions and (anti)protons at midrapidity (|η|<0.35), in 0%–5% central p+Au and He3+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV. When taken together with previously published measurements in d+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV, the results cover a broad range of small-collision-system multiplicities and intrinsic initial geometries. We observe a clear mass-dependent splitting of v2(pT) in d+Au and He3+Au collisions, just as in large nucleus-nucleus (A+A) collisions, and a smaller splitting in p+Au collisions. Both hydrodynamic and transport model calculations successfully describe the data at low pT (<1.5GeV/c), but …
One-dimensional charged kaon femtoscopy in p -Pb collisions at sNN = 5.02 TeV

The correlations of identical charged kaons were measured in p-Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The femtoscopic invariant radii and correlation strengths were extracted from one-dimensional kaon correlation functions and were compared with those obtained in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at √s=7 TeV and √sNN=2.76 TeV, respectively. The presented results also complement the identical-pion femtoscopic data published by the ALICE collaboration. The extracted radii increase with increasing charged-particle multiplicity and decrease with increasing pair transverse momentum. Nuclear Modification ofψ′,χc, andJ/ψProduction ind+AuCollisions atsNN=200 GeV

We present results for three charmonia states (psi' chi(c), and J/ psi) in d + Au collisions at vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.35 and root s(NN) = 200 GeV. We find that the modification of the psi' yield relative to that of the J/ psi scales approximately with charged particle multiplicity at midrapidity across p + A, d + Au, and A + A results from the Super Proton Synchrotron and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. In large-impact-parameter collisions we observe a similar suppression for the psi' and J/ psi, while in small-impact-parameter collisions the more weakly bound psi' is more strongly suppressed. High-multiplicity neutron events registered by NEMESIS experiment

Neutron-induced interactions contribute to the signal-mimicking background in deep-underground searches for exotic phenomena such as Dark Matter, neutrino-less double beta decay, proton decay, etc. Apart from radioactive decay, the primary source of neutrons underground are high-energy muons from cosmic showers. While the maximum number of fission neutrons is around six and energies around one MeV, muon-induced interactions may generate hundreds of neutrons, also with high energies. Furthermore, these processes are not yet reproduced in numerical simulations with sufficient reliability. J/ψ production as a function of charged particle multiplicity in pp collisions at s =7 TeV

The ALICE Collaboration reports the measurement of the relative J/psi yield as a function of charged particle pseudorapidity density dN(ch)/d eta in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV at the LHC. J/psi particles are detected for p(t) > 0, in the rapidity interval vertical bar y vertical bar 0. In the highest multiplicity interval with (dN(ch)/d eta)(bin)) = 24.1, corresponding to four times the minimum bias multiplicity density, an enhancement relative to the minimum bias J/psi yield by a factor of about 5 at 2.5 < y <4 (8 at vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) is observed.
