An Efficient Damping Technique for the Unstable Hysteretic Rotor Whirl by Proper Suspension Systems

This paper shows as the destabilising influence of the shaft hysteresis on the supercritical rotor whirl can be efficiently counterbalanced by external dissipative sources. After calculating the steady whirling paths of the rotor and the bearing due to unbalance, the stability is checked by the Routh-Hurwitz procedure, investigating the influence of the stiffness anisotropy of the supports. A fairly interesting result is that the instability phenomena can be conveniently prevented by different suspension stiffness in the horizontal and vertical planes.

The scientific paper presents the most important aspects of theoretical and practical nature regarding the possibilities of processing metallic materials using the contact breaking electrical discharge machining with transfer object-metal band. The exposed research is based on the experience gained over the years by a team of Romanian researchers and university professors who managed to patent a metal material cutting plant using the process of contact breaking electrical discharge machining with transfer object-metal band. The scientific paper presents a radiography of some studies and research carried out over the years in the previous field presented.

Vaccine hesitancy was one of the ten major threats to global health in 2019, according to the World Health Organisation. Nowadays, social media has an important role in the spread of information, misinformation, and disinformation about vaccines. Monitoring vaccine-related conversations on social media could help us to identify the factors that contribute to vaccine confidence in each historical period and geographical area. We used a hybrid approach to perform an opinion-mining analysis on 1,499,227 vaccine-related tweets published on Twitter from 1st June 2011 to 30th April 2019. Ion channels are fundamental biological devices that act as gates in order to ensure selective ion transport across cellular membranes; their operation constitutes the molecular mechanism through which basic biological functions, such as nerve signal transmission and muscle contraction, are carried out. Here, we review recent results in the field of computational research on ion channels, covering theoretical advances, state-of-the-art simulation approaches, and frontline modeling techniques. We also report on few selected applications of continuum and atomistic methods to characterize the mechanisms of permeation, selectivity, and gating in biological and model channels.

The title compound, C16H23BrCl2O, was synthesized in three steps from β-himachalene (3,5,5,9-tetramethyl-2,4a,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-1H-benzocycloheptene), which was isolated from the essential oil of the Atlas cedar (cedrus atlantica). The molecule is built up from two fused six- and seven-membered rings, each linked to a three-membered ring. The six-membered ring has a screw-boat conformation, whereas the seven-membered ring displays a twist-boat conformation. The absolute structure was established unambiguously from anomalous dispersion effects.

The title compound, C16H24Cl2O, crystallizes with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. Each molecule is built up from two fused six-membered rings, one of which is fused to a three-membered ring. The two molecules differ essentially in the orientation of two of the methyl groups. The dihedral angles between the mean planes through the two six-membered rings are 57.98 (13) and 55.29 (13)°. The molecular conformation is stabilized by intramolecular C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds.
Universal Patterns in Color-Emotion Associations Are Further Shaped by Linguistic and Geographic Proximity

Many of us “see red,” “feel blue,” or “turn green with envy.” Are such color-emotion associations fundamental to our shared cognitive architecture, or are they cultural creations learned through our languages and traditions? To answer these questions, we tested emotional associations of colors in 4,598 participants from 30 nations speaking 22 native languages. Participants associated 20 emotion concepts with 12 color terms. Pattern-similarity analyses revealed universal color-emotion associations (average similarity coefficient r = .88).
