Abstract In the aerospace industry, the milling of aluminum alloy parts is a machining process with the primary purpose of removing high volumes of material. Aluminum alloys are materials that have relatively good machinability, which helps the process because many of the components of the aircraft are of high dimensions. These parts have many pockets more or less deep, and the removal by cutting off about 90% of the initial volume of the workpiece is a matter of consideration. Technological aspects regarding machining the titanium alloys by means of incremental forming

Titanium alloys are materials with reduced formability, due to their low plasticity. However, today there are high demands regarding their use in the automotive industry and in bio-medical industry, for prosthetic devices. This paper presents some technological aspects regarding the machinability of titanium alloys by means of incremental forming. The research presented in this paper aimed to demonstrate that the parts made from these materials could be machined at room temperature, in certain technological conditions.

Abstract The tribological behaviour of the monolayer PVD-titanium aluminium nitride (TiAlN) coated carbide inserts in unidirectional dry sliding against steel and cast iron counterparts was investigated using the pin-on-disc standard test with varying sliding speeds and normal loads. Three different materials of various machinability rates were used as the counterparts, namely the normalised medium carbon steel C45 equivalent to AISI 1045, austenitic stainless steel 1H18N9T equivalent to AISI 304 and gray cast iron EN-GJL-300 with flake-shaped graphite. Chapter 13 provides comprehensive knowledge regarding machinability of construction materials and characterizes various meanings of this specific material feature, allowing effective selection of machining conditions. Factors affecting machinability and typical causes of low machinability are discussed. Three groups of machinability criteria are selected, including basic, substitutive and auxiliary ones.
