Back EMF Sensorless-Control Algorithm for High-Dynamic Performance PMSM
2010
In this paper, a low-time-consuming and low-cost sensorless-control algorithm for high-dynamic performance permanent-magnet synchronous motors, both surface and internal permanent-magnet mounted for position and speed estimation, is introduced, discussed, and experimentally validated. This control algorithm is based on the estimation of rotor speed and angular position starting from the back electromotive force space-vector determination without voltage sensors by using the reference voltages given by the current controllers instead of the actual ones. This choice obviously introduces some errors that must be vanished by means of a compensating function. The novelties of the proposed estima…
Neural Sensorless Control of Linear Induction Motors by a Full-Order Luenberger Observer Considering the End Effects
2012
This paper proposes a neural based full-order Luenberger adaptive speed observer for sensorless linear induction motor (LIM) drives, where the linear speed is estimated with the total least squares (TLS) EXIN neuron. A novel state space-vector representation of the LIM has been deduced, taking into consideration its dynamic end effects. The state equations of the LIM have been rearranged into a matrix form to be solved, in terms of the LIM linear speed, by any least squares technique. The TLS EXIN neuron has been used to compute online, in recursive form, the machine linear speed. A new gain matrix choice of the Luenberger observer, specifically taking into consideration the LIM dynamic end…
MRAS speed observer for high performance linear induction motor drives based on linear neural networks
2011
This paper proposes a Neural Network (NN) MRAS (Model Reference Adaptive System) speed observer suited for linear induction motor (LIM) drives. The voltage and current models of the LIM in the stationary reference frame, taking into consideration the end effects, have been obtained. Then, equations of the induced part have been discretized and rearranged so as to be represented by a linear neural network the TLS EXIN neuron, which has been used to compute the machine linear speed on-line and in recursive form. The proposed NN MRAS observer has been tested experimentally on a suitably developed test setup. Its performance has been also compared to the classic MRAS speed observer.
A New Digital Demodulator for Sensorless Control of Electrical Drives with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors
2008
This paper deals a new digital demodulator algorithm for sensorless control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMS) based on the estimation of speed and rotor angular position. To this aim a signal similar to that generated by a resolver connected to the shaft of the motor is obtained injecting high frequency stator currents. A new digital algorithm has been designed and set up to demodulate the above signal whose implementation can be carried out on the same DSP that processes the whole control algorithm. The proposed demodulator scheme is presented and justified on the theoretic point of view. Simulations results finally validate the effectiveness of the demodulator within …
Control of an open-end winding induction machine via a two-output indirect matrix converter
2014
In this paper an Indirect Matrix Converter (IMC) with two output stages feeding an open-end winding induction machine is presented. The IMC has the advantage of having nobulky energy storage elements and with the two output stages up to 1.5 times the input phase voltage can be obtained across the windings of the machine, without overmodulation. A vector control scheme for the machine currents is used along with a modulation strategy for the converter two-output stages to reduce the common mode voltage and compensate the phase zero sequence currents. Simulation results showing the performance of the controlscheme and the reduction of zero sequence and common mode voltages are presented and d…
Optimum Performance of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators Coupled to Wind Turbines
2007
In this paper a control algorithm for the efficiency improvement of permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) is presented. The proposed algorithm reduces the losses of the generator without affecting its performances. In details, after a description of a dynamic model of the PMSG, which has been purposely modified in order to take into account the iron losses, the basic equations and the constraints to obtain the loss minimization are presented and discussed. Some simulations of a specific PMSG employing the proposed algorithm are performed. The results of these simulations show that enhancement of the efficiency up to 3% can be reached in comparison to a PMSG using a traditional cont…
Motion control systems for machine tools - a mechatronic approach by means of simulation
2008
Tuning the control parameters of the feed drives for existing state of the art CNC machine tools, or retrofitting obsolete machine tools requires a close understanding of the position control process. The use of a mathematical model of the feed drive, combined with a computer simulation process is needed in order to fulfill the above mentioned tasks. In this paper some simulation tools for studying the CNC motion control systems are presented. Both single axis positioning regime and biaxial linear and circular interpolation regime were taken into consideration. The main goal of the research was to offer a handson integrated simulation tools compatible and able to use for improving the perfo…
Closed-loop bandwidth impact on MVSA for rotor broken bar diagnosis in IRFOC double squirrel cage induction motor drives
2013
This paper investigates the detectability of rotor broken bars in indirect rotor flux oriented control (IRFOC) for variable speed double cage induction motor drives, using vibration signature analysis techniques. The Impact of the closed loop control system cannot be neglected when the detection of rotor asymmetries in the machine is based on the signature analysis of electrical or mechanical variables. Therefore, the investigation of rotor fault components for different bandwidths of closed-loop regulators is necessary to evaluate its relevance in the above listed variables. This paper investigates the impact of the control system on relevance of the fault components computed from axial an…

Design and Low-Cost Implementation of an Optimally Robust Reduced-Order Rotor Flux Observer for Induction Motor Control
2007
The aim of this paper is to design and analyze reduced-order observers of the rotor flux of induction motors. The design is carried out in two steps. In the first step, a boundary of the stability region of the observation error is obtained corresponding to a chosen Lyapunov function. In the second step, the boundary is translated into a performance index that is minimized with respect to stator and rotor resistance variations and differences of voltages supplying the motor and those supplying the observer in order to obtain the largest stability region. Implementation of the observer on a low-cost fixed-point digital signal processor using look-up tables is described. Experimental results …
