EFFICIENT AND SECURE ALGORITHMS FOR MOBILE CROWDSENSING THROUGH PERSONAL SMART DEVICES.
2021
The success of the modern pervasive sensing strategies, such as the Social Sensing, strongly depends on the diffusion of smart mobile devices. Smartwatches, smart- phones, and tablets are devices capable of capturing and analyzing data about the user’s context, and can be exploited to infer high-level knowledge about the user himself, and/or the surrounding environment. In this sense, one of the most relevant applications of the Social Sensing paradigm concerns distributed Human Activity Recognition (HAR) in scenarios ranging from health care to urban mobility management, ambient intelligence, and assisted living. Even though some simple HAR techniques can be directly implemented on mo- bil…
A machine learning model based on tumor and immune biomarkers to predict undetectable MRD and survival outcomes in multiple myeloma
2022
Abstract Purpose: Undetectable measurable residual disease (MRD) is a surrogate of prolonged survival in multiple myeloma. Thus, treatment individualization based on the probability of a patient achieving undetectable MRD with a singular regimen could represent a new concept toward personalized treatment, with fast assessment of its success. This has never been investigated; therefore, we sought to define a machine learning model to predict undetectable MRD at the onset of multiple myeloma. Experimental Design: This study included 487 newly diagnosed patients with multiple myeloma. The training (n = 152) and internal validation cohorts (n = 149) consisted of 301 transplant-eligible patients…
Smart River : Towards Efficient Cooperative Autonomous Inland Navigation
2022
In recent years, inland waterway transport has witnessed increasing attention from France and many European countries. However, this mode of transport lacks flexibility, has an aging infrastructure, and the current ships are not adapted to an increase in transport capacity ensuring the safety of vessels and goods as well as reliable and constant delivery times. Therefore, inland transport must go through an organizational and technical renovation specific to its particular environment in order to hope to compete with land transport. In this thesis, we propose developing a smart river ecosystem that focuses on three principal axes: (i) automatic inland infrastructure, (ii) autonomous inland s…
Proceedings - International Workshop on Computer Architecture for Machine Perception, CAMP
2005
This volume contains the proceedings of the 2005 IEEE International Workshop on Computer Architecture for Machine Perception. CAMP05 is the seventh in the series of workshops which began with CAMP91 in Paris and followed by CAMP93 in New Orleans, CAMP95 in Como, CAMP97 in Boston, CAMP00 in Padova, CAMP03 in New Orleans. The CAMP workshops represent a continuation of the very successful IEEE CAPAMI (Computer Architectures for Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence) workshops held during the 1970's and 1980's. Besides the traditional topics of highly parallel architectures, distributed computing, real time systems, VLSI architectures and image analysis algorithms, this edition of the works…
Editorial: Consciousness in Humanoid Robots
2019
Building a conscious robot is a grand scientific and technological challenge. Debates about the possibility of conscious robots and the related positive outcomes and hazards for human beings are today no longer confined to philosophical circles.
Philosophical, Experimental and Synthetic Phenomenology: The Study of Perception for Biological, Artificial Agents and Environments
2022
AbstractIn this paper the relationship between phenomenology of perception and synthetic phenomenology is discussed. Synthetic phenomenology is presented on the basis of the issues in A.I. and Robotics that required to address the question of what enables artificial agents to have phenomenal access to the environment. Phenomenology of perception is construed as a theory with autonomous structure and domain, which can be embedded in a philosophical as well as a scientific theory. Two attempts at specifying the phenomenal content of artificial agents are discussed. Concepts and experimental evidence on the independence of perception and the coordination of motion and appearances are set out t…

Machine learning approach for predicting Fusarium culmorum and F. proliferatum growth and mycotoxin production in treatments with ethylene-vinyl alco…
2020
Fusarium culmorum and F. proliferatum can grow and produce, respectively, zearalenone (ZEA) and fumonisins (FUM) in different points of the food chain. Application of antifungal chemicals to control these fungi and mycotoxins increases the risk of toxic residues in foods and feeds, and induces fungal resistances. In this study, a new and multidisciplinary approach based on the use of bioactive ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) films containing pure components of essential oils (EOCs) and machine learning (ML) methods is evaluated. Bioactive EVOH-EOC films were made incorporating cinnamaldehyde (CINHO), citral (CIT), isoeugenol (IEG) or linalool (LIN). Several ML methods (neural networ…
Hybrid retrieval of crop traits from multi-temporal PRISMA hyperspectral imagery
2022
The recently launched and upcoming hyperspectral satellite missions, featuring contiguous visible-to-shortwave infrared spectral information, are opening unprecedented opportunities for the retrieval of a broad set of vegetation traits with enhanced accuracy through novel retrieval schemes. In this framework, we exploited hyperspectral data cubes collected by the new-generation PRecursore IperSpettrale della Missione Applicativa (PRISMA) satellite of the Italian Space Agency to develop and test a hybrid retrieval workflow for crop trait mapping. Crop traits were mapped over an agricultural area in north-east Italy (Jolanda di Savoia, FE) using PRISMA images collected during the 2020 and 202…
