Field analysis of the magnetic systems for tubular linear reluctance motors

We report a study of tubular linear reluctance motors (TLRMs) in various types of magnetic circuits. We carried out magnetic field analyses and calculated integral parameters of the field. We also determined static characteristics and electromagnetic parameters of the motor. We found good agreement between our calculations and tests of the motor with sinusoidal excitation.
Simulation of forces and 3-D field arising during power autotransformer fault due to electric arc in HV winding

Forces and three-dimensional magnetic fields in high-voltage winding due to an internal short circuit in a power autotransformer are calculated with the computer package OPERA 3D. The considered damage was caused by an electric arc. The materialized deformation of the winding part confirms the simulation results.
The influence of the stochastic features of the energy source on the design of an electromagnetic generator

The purpose of this paper is to clarify in a general way how the unavoidable randomness of renewable energy sources influences the magnetic design of electric generator. A general model of electro magnetic generator based on the well known d-q axes analysis is given. The energy source is modelled as a stochastic variable and is included in the equations of the system. The equations are solved and, therefore, the energy output of the system is linked to the random characteristic of the energy source. As a result, the magnetic circuit and the parameters of the generator that maximize the energy extraction can be found and generally linked to the stochastic details of the source.

In this paper an approach to the optimization of the magnetic design of a Permanent Magnet (PM) linear generator for the exploitation of the energy contained in sea waves is presented. This approach consists of a two step procedure: the first one takes into account the stochastic features of the sea wave motion and describe the working condition of the machine under this motion by adopting a lumped parameter model. In this step the objective function is the energy production. The second step optimizes the generator by using the results obtained in the first step as the constraints that must be fulfilled by a design based on a Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis. A novel improved matlab-based software for the electric and magnetic analysis and design of rotating electrical machines

The aim of this paper is to present a software for the analysis and design of windings of rotating electrical machines, considering both the electric and the magnetic specifications on the machine. The considered machines are induction motors (IM) and PM synchronous motors (PMSM). The software accounts for the case of buried magnets (IPMSM), but with some limits, because the calculations require a much more detailed analysis regarding the magnetic circuit. However, this initial limitation of the software, that will be removed in a later version, does not constitute a major limitation as confirmed by the examples presented in this paper.
