A model of a single ferromagnetic particle with a finite coupling energy of the magnetic moment with the body of the particle is formulated, and regimes of its motion in a rotating magnetic field are investigated. Regimes are possible that are synchronous and asynchronous with the field. In a synchronous regime the easy axis of the particle is in the plane of the rotating magnetic field at low frequencies (a planar regime) and on the cone at high frequencies (a precession regime). The stability of these regimes is investigated, and it is shown that the precession regime is stable for field strengths below the critical value. From an observational point of view, unveiling the physical processes behind the nature of the jets emanating from radio-loud AGN demands the resolution of the structure across the jet with the highest angular resolutions. Relying on a magneto-fluid dynamical description, numerical simulations can help to characterize the internal structure of jets (transversal structure, magnetic field structure, internal shocks, etc.). Design and Performance of a High Temperature Superconducting Axial Flux Generator

In this paper, a high temperature axial flux (HTSAF) generator is presented. In this generator the excitation of the generator is obtained by using some high temperature superconducting magnets. In order to reduce the negative effects of vibrations, the excitation is located on the stationary part of the generator. Starting, running and endurance tests of the machine are presented.
Magnetic-field-induced anisotropic curvature elasticity of a vesicle membrane containing magnetic polyions

Interaction between a charged membrane and the electrolyte solution containing magnetic polyions is considered. A self-magnetic field, which arises due to the nonhomogeneous magnetic particle distribution near a charged membrane increases the effective charge screening length for the parts of a membrane normal to a magnetic field. The anisotropy of elastic properties of a membrane depending on the screening length is calculated on the basis of the curvature expansion. Multiwavelength afterglow light curves from magnetized gamma-ray burst flows

We use high-resolution relativistic magnetohydrodynamics simulations coupled with a radiative transfer code to compute multiwavelength afterglow light curves of magnetized ejecta of gamma-ray bursts interacting with a uniform circumburst medium. The aim of our study is to determine how the magnetization of the ejecta at large distance from the central engine influences the afterglow emission, and to assess whether observations can be reliably used to infer the strength of the magnetic field. We find that, for typical parameters of the ejecta, the emission from the reverse shock peaks for magnetization (σ 0 ~ 0.01-0.1 of the flow, and that it is greatly suppressed for higher σ 0 . Tunneling spectroscopy of giant vorticity states in superconducting micro- and nanorings at ultra-low temperatures

Abstract When a superconducting contour is exposed to a magnetic field screening currents are induced. At temperatures well below the critical temperature Tc periodicity of the persistent currents can significantly exceed the superconducting flux quantum h / 2 e due to formation of metastable energy states with high quantum winding numbers (vorticity). We have studied the effect in normal metal-insulator-superconductor (NIS) and SIS’IS tunnel structures with the superconducting (S or S′) electrode in a shape of a loop. Cooling of a superconductor by quasiparticle tunneling

We have extended the cryogenic cooling method based on tunneling between a superconductor and another metal to the case when both metals are superconducting but when their energy gaps are different; earlier, this method was applied between a superconductor and a normal metal. The electron system of a titanium strip with the superconducting transition temperature Tc2=0.51 K has been cooled from 1.02Tc2 to below 0.7Tc2 by this method, using aluminum as the other superconductor.
The quality factor of a superconducting rf resonator in a magnetic field.

The quality factor of a superconducting NbTi resonator at 1.6 MHz in a magnetic field up to 1.2 T as well as its temperature dependence is investigated. A hysteresis effect in the superconducting surface resistance as a function of the magnetic field is observed. An unloaded Q-value of the resonator of 40,500 is achieved at 3.9 K. It is shown that this Q-value is limited by dielectric losses in the FORMVAR insulation of the coils wire. The details of the Q-value optimization are discussed. In the temperature dependence of the Q-value a steep decrease is observed above T approximately = 7.5 K. Finally, the implications of these measurements for real trap experiments are discussed in detail.
