Semiconductive and Magnetic One-Dimensional Coordination Polymers of Cu(II) with Modified Nucleobases

2013

Four new copper(II) coordination complexes, obtained by reaction of CuX2 (X = acetate or chloride) with thymine-1-acetic acid and uracil-1-propionic acid as ligands, of formulas [Cu(TAcO)2(H2O)4]·4H2O (1), [Cu(TAcO)2(H2O)2]n (2), [Cu3(TAcO)4(H2O)2(OH)2]n·4H2O (3), and [Cu3(UPrO)2Cl2(OH)2(H2O)2]n (4) (TAcOH = thymine-1-acetic acid, UPrOH = uracil-1-propionic acid) are described. While 1 is a discrete complex, 2-4 are one-dimensional coordination polymers. Complexes 2-4 present dc conductivity values between 10(-6) and 10(-9) S/cm(-1). The magnetic behavior of complex 2 is typical for almost isolated Cu(II) metal centers. Moderate-weak antiferromagnetic interactions have been found in complex…

Use of a reduced Schiff-Base ligand to prepare novel chloro-bridged chains of rare Cu(II) trinuclear complexes with mixed azido/oxo and chloro/oxo br…

2010

Two mixed bridged one-dimensional (1D) polynuclear complexes, [Cu(3)L(2)(mu(1,1)-N(3))(2)(mu-Cl)Cl](n) (1) and {[Cu(3)L(2)(mu-Cl)(3)Cl].0.46CH(3)OH}(n) (2), have been synthesized using the tridentate reduced Schiff-base ligand HL (2-[(2-dimethylamino-ethylamino)-methyl]-phenol). The complexes have been characterized by X-ray structural analyses and variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. In both complexes the basic trinuclear angular units are joined together by weak chloro bridges to form a 1D chain. The trinuclear structure of 1 is composed of two terminal square planar [Cu(L)(mu(1,1)-N(3))] units connected by a central Cu(II) atom through bridging nitrogen atoms of end…

Syntheses, structures, and magnetic properties of diphenoxo-bridged Cu(II)Ln(III) and Ni(II)(low-spin)Ln(III) compounds derived from a compartmental …

2010

Syntheses, characterization, and magnetic properties of a series of diphenoxo-bridged discrete dinuclear M(II)Ln(III) complexes (M = Cu or Ni, Ln = Ce-Yb) derived from the compartmental Schiff base ligand, H(2)L, obtained on condensation of 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde with trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane, are described. Single crystal X-ray structures of eight Cu(II)Ln(III) compounds (Ln = Ce (1), Pr (2), Nd (3), Sm (4), Tb (7), Ho (9), Er (10), and Yb (12)) and three Ni(II)Ln(III) (Ln = Ce (13), Sm (16), and Gd (18)) compounds have been determined. Considering the previously reported structure of the Cu(II)Gd(III) (6) compound (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 2005, 1500), a total of twelve structures are di…

Isolation, characterization, and computational studies of the novel [Mo3(mu3-Br)2(mu-Br)3Br6]2- cluster anion.

2010

The novel trimolybdenum cluster [Mo(3)(mu(3)-Br)(2)(mu-Br)(3)Br(6)](2-) (1, {Mo(3)}(9+), 9 d-electrons) has been isolated from the reaction of [Mo(CO)(6)] with 1,2-C(2)H(4)Br(2) in refluxing PhCl. The compound has been characterized in solution by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), UV-vis spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and in the solid state by X-ray analysis (counter-cations: (n-Bu)(4)N(+) (1), Et(4)N(+), Et(3)BzN(+)), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), magnetic susceptibility measurements, and infrared spectroscopy. The least disordered (n-Bu)(4)N(+) salt crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c, a = 20.077(2) A, b = 11.8638(11) A, c = 22.521(2) A, alpha = 9…

Functional superoxide dismutase mimics. Structural characterization and magnetic exchange interactions of copper(II)-N-substituted sulfonamide dimer …

2004

Dinuclear copper(II) complexes with N-substituted sulfonamide ligands as superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimics have been investigated. The new N-(thiazol-2-yl)toluenesulfonamide (Htz-tol) and N-(thiazol-2-yl)naphthalenesulfonamide (Htz-naf) ligands have been prepared and structurally characterized. The complexes derived from these ligands, [Cu(2)(tz-tol)(4)] (1) and [Cu(2)(tz-naf)(4)] (2), have been synthesized, and their crystal structure, magnetic properties, and EPR spectra were studied in detail. In both compounds the metal centers are bridged by four nonlinear triatomic NCN groups. The coordination geometry of the coppers in the dinuclear entity of 1 and 2 is distorted square planar with t…

Rare Example of μ-Nitrito-1κ2O,O′:2κO Coordinating Mode in Copper(II) Nitrite Complexes with Monoanionic Tridentate Schiff Base Ligands: Structure, M…

2008

Three new copper(II) complexes, [CuL(1)(NO(2))](n) (1), [CuL(2)(NO(2))] (2), and [CuL(3)(NO(2))] (3), with three similar tridentate Schiff base ligands [HL(1) = 6-amino-3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-azahept-2-en-1-one, HL(2) = 6-amino-3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-azahex-2-en-1-one, and HL(3) = 6-diethylamino-3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-azahex-2-en-1-one] have been synthesized and characterized structurally and magnetically. In all three complexes, the tridentate Schiff base ligand and one oxygen atom of the nitrite ion constitute the equatorial plane around Cu(II), whereas the second oxygen atom of the nitrite ligand coordinates to one of the axial positions. In 1, this axially coordinated oxygen atom of the nitrite …

Pyrophosphate-mediated magnetic interactions in Cu(II) coordination complexes.

2010

The reaction in water of Cu(NO(3))(2)·2.5H(2)O with 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy), 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), or 1,10-phenanthroline-5-amine (phenam), and sodium pyrophosphate (Na(4)P(2)O(7)), at various pHs, afforded three new copper(II)-pyrophosphate complexes, namely, {[Cu(bipy)(cis-H(2)P(2)O(7))](2)}·3H(2)O (1a), {[Cu(phen)(H(2)O)](4)(HP(2)O(7))(2)}(ClO(4))(2)·4H(2)O (2), and {[Cu(2)(phenam)(2)(P(2)O(7))](2)·25H(2)O}(n) (3). A solvent free crystalline phase of 1a was also isolated with formula {[Cu(bipy)(trans-H(2)P(2)O(7))](2)} (1b), which can be regarded as a pseudo-polymorph of 1a. Single crystal X-ray analyses revealed these compounds to have uncommon molecular architectures, with 3 being…

An "S"-shaped pentanuclear CuII cluster derived from the metal-assisted hydrolysis of pyCOpyCOpy: structural, magnetic and spectroscopic studies.

2007

Reaction of [Cu2(O2CMe)4(H2O)2] with 2,6-di-(2-pyridylcarbonyl)-pyridine (pyCOpyCOpy or dpcp) in MeCN–H2O 10 : 1, led to the pentanuclear copper(II) complex [Cu5(O2CMe)6{pyC(O)(OH)pyC(O)(OH)py}2] (1) which crystallizes in the triclinic P space group. The copper(II) atoms are arranged in an “S”-shaped configuration, and are bridged by the doubly deprotonated bis(gem-diol) form of the ligand, pyC(O)(OH)pyC(O)(OH)py2−. Magnetic susceptibility data indicate the interplay of both ferro- and antiferromagnetic intramolecular interactions stabilizing an S = 3/2 ground state. Fitting of the data according to a next-nearest-neighbour model {Ĥ = −[J1(Ŝ1Ŝ2 + Ŝ1′Ŝ2′) + J2(Ŝ2Ŝ3 + Ŝ3′Ŝ2′) + J3(Ŝ1Ŝ3 + Ŝ3′Ŝ…

Study of the influence of the bridge on the magnetic coupling in cobalt(II) complexes.

2009

Two new cobalt(II) complexes of formula [Co(2)(bta)(H(2)O)(6)](n) x 2nH(2)O (1) and [Co(phda)(H(2)O)](n) x nH(2)O (2) [H(4)bta = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid, H(2)phda = 1,4-phenylenediacetic acid] have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 is a one-dimensional compound where the bta(4-) ligand acts as 2-fold connector between the cobalt(II) ions through two carboxylate groups in para-conformation. Triply bridged dicobalt(II) units occur within each chain, a water molecule, a carboxylate group in the syn-syn conformation, and an oxo-carboxylate with the mu(2)O(1);kappa(2)O(1),O(2) coordination mode acting as bridges. Compound 2 is a three-dimensional comp…

The first unpaired electron placed inside a C3-symmetry P-chirogenic cluster

2010

The Pd(3)(dppm*)(3)(CO)(n+) enantiomers (n = 2 (2), 1 (3)) were prepared either from (R,R)- or (S,S)-P-chirogenic bis(phenyl-m-xylylphosphino)methane (dppm*; 1) and Pd(OAc)(2) in the presence of CF(3)CO(2)H, CO and water (n = 2), and then by reductive electrolysis (n = 1). The stable enantiomeric [Pd(3)((S,S)-dppm*)(3)(CO)](+)˙ (3), is the first C(3)-symmetry radical-cation M-M bonded cluster, therefore the odd electron is delocalized onto the Pd(3) frame within this symmetry. The novel chiral species have been characterized by circular dichroism (CD) of both enantiomers of the Pd(3)(dppm*)(3)(CO)(2+) clusters (2) and by EPR spectroscopy for the Pd(3)((S,S)-dppm*)(3)(CO)(+)˙ paramagnetic co…
