Mononuclear lanthanide single molecule magnets based on the polyoxometalates [Ln(W5O18)2]9- and [Ln(beta2-SiW11O39)2]13- (Ln(III) = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, T…

2009

The first two families of polyoxometalate-based single-molecule magnets (SMMs) are reported here. Compounds of the general formula [Ln(W(5)O(18))(2)](9-) (Ln(III) = Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er) and [Ln(SiW(11)O(39))(2)](13-) (Ln(III) = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb) have been magnetically characterized with static and dynamic measurements. Slow relaxation of the magnetization, typically associated with SMM-like behavior, was observed for [Ln(W(5)O(18))(2)](9-) (Ln(III) = Ho and Er) and [Ln(SiW(11)O(39))(2)](13-) (Ln(III) = Dy, Ho, Er, and Yb). Among them, only the [Er(W(5)O(18))(2)](9-) derivative exhibited such a behavior above 2 K with an energy barrier for the reversal of the magnetization of 55 K. …

Kinetics of doublet formation in bicomponent magnetic suspensions: The role of the magnetic permeability anisotropy

2017

Micron-sized particles (microbeads) dispersed in a suspension of magnetic nanoparticles, i.e., ferrofluids, can be assembled into different types of structures upon application of an externalmagnetic field. This paper is devoted to theoretical modeling of a relative motion of a pair of microbeads (either soft ferromagnetic or diamagnetic) in the ferrofluid under the action of applied uniform magnetic field which induces magnetic moments in the microbeads making them attracting to each other. The model is based on a point-dipole approximation for the magnetic interactions between microbeads mediated by the ferrofluid; however, the ferrofluid is considered to possess an anisotropic magnetic p…

Coupled stochastic dynamics of magnetic moment and anisotropy axis of a magnetic nanoparticle

2012

An algorithm is developed for numerical simulation of coupled stochastic dynamics of magnetic moment and magnetic anisotropy axis of a nanoparticle. Time-correlation functions of the magnetic moment and its components longitudinal and transverse to the magnetic anisotropy axis are calculated by averaging along the stochastic trajectory. The longitudinal and transverse relaxation times are found by fitting the time correlation functions. Existing theoretical relations derived by the effective field approach in the limit of small fields are confirmed. The time-correlation functions of magnetic moments of nanoparticles in dependence on their properties are calculated numerically for arbitrary …

2006

The use of salicylaldehyde oxime (H2salox) in iron(III) carboxylate chemistry has yielded two new hexanuclear compounds [Fe6(mu3-O)2(O2CPh)10(salox)2(L)2].xMeCN.yH2O [L = MeCONH2, x = 6, y = 0 (1); L = H2O, x = 2, y = 3 (2)]. Data-driven design of molecular nanomagnets

2022

AbstractThree decades of research in molecular nanomagnets have raised their magnetic memories from liquid helium to liquid nitrogen temperature thanks to a wise choice of the magnetic ion and coordination environment. Still, serendipity and chemical intuition played a main role. In order to establish a powerful framework for statistically driven chemical design, here we collected chemical and physical data for lanthanide-based nanomagnets, catalogued over 1400 published experiments, developed an interactive dashboard (SIMDAVIS) to visualise the dataset, and applied inferential statistical analysis. Our analysis shows that the Arrhenius energy barrier correlates unexpectedly well with the m…

Reorientation of magnetization states in Fe-nanostripe arrays on stepped W(110) caused by adsorption of CO, H2 and O2

1999

Abstract Fe-Nanostripe arrays of alternating double layer (DL) and monolayer (ML) stripes were grown on stepped W(1 1 0) surfaces by MBE. Magnetic properties were measured in situ in UHV using the polar and longitudinal magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) during exposure to CO, H2 and O2. The longitudinal Kerr signal increases and the polar signal decreases with increasing exposure of all three gases. A sudden onset of perpendicular remanence was observed at exposures characteristic for each particular gas.

A fronto-parietal network is mediating improvement of motor function related to repetitive peripheral magnetic stimulation: A PET-H2O15 study.

2006

Repetitive peripheral magnetic stimulation (RPMS) is a focused and painless stimulation method, in which muscle contractions are elicited by depolarization of the terminal motor branches. Clinical-experimental investigations on different disorders of sensorimotor integration in the last decade have shown that RPMS can be used for the rehabilitation of motor functions after stroke. It is supposed that this therapeutic effect is based on the RPMS-induced proprioceptive inflow to the CNS. To analyze the conditioning effects of RPMS on reorganization of the motor system on cortical level positron emission tomography (PET) is used. Regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) has been measured using H(2)…

Development of mouse testis and epididymis following intrauterine exposure to a static magnetic field

1999

In order to test if the in utero exposure to static magnetic fields affects testis and epididymis development in mice, females were exposed to 0.5–0.7 T, generated by a permanent magnet, from day 7 of gestation to the day of birth. No significant differences were found between exposed and sham-exposed animals with respect to body weight gain of dam during the gestational period, litter size, body weight of male pups at the day of birth, and body or testis-epididymis weight gain of pups from birth to day 35. Histopathologic evaluation of testis and epididymis of pups of 1, 5, 15, and 35 days of age showed no detectable alterations due to in utero exposure to static magnetic fields. Bioelectr…

Polymeric Nanocarriers for Magnetic Targeted Drug Delivery: Preparation, Characterization, and in Vitro and in Vivo Evaluation

2013

In this paper the preparation of magnetic nano- carriers (MNCs), containing superparamagnetic domains, is reported, useful as potential magnetically targeted drug delivery systems. The preparation of MNCs was performed by using the PHEA-IB-p(BMA) graft copolymer as coating material through the homogenization−solvent evaporation method. Magnetic and nonmagnetic nanocarriers containing flutamide (FLU-MNCs) were prepared. The prepared nanocarriers have been exhaustively characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and magnetic measurements. Biological evaluation was performed by in vitro cytotoxicity and cell uptake tests and in vivo biodistribution …

Non-viral VEGF(165) gene therapy--magnetofection of acoustically active magnetic lipospheres ('magnetobubbles') increases tissue survival in an overs…

2008

Abstract Adenoviral transduction of the VEGF gene in an oversized skin flap increases flap survival and perfusion. In this study, we investigated the potential of magnetofection of magnetic lipospheres containing VEGF165-cDNA on survival and perfusion of ischemic skin flaps and evaluated the method with respect to the significance of applied magnetic field and ultrasound. We prepared perfluoropropane-filled magnetic lipospheres (‘magnetobubbles’) from Tween60-coated magnetic nanoparticles, Metafectene, soybean-oil and cDNA and studied the effect in an oversized random-pattern-flap model in the rats (n= 46). VEGF-cDNA-magnetobubbles were administered under a magnetic field with simultaneousl…
