Mössbauer study and non-linear excitations in the antiferromagnetic chain of Rb2Mn1−xFexF5*H2O (x≤0.50)

1989

Mossbauer effect measurements have been performed on the quasi 1-d antiferromagnetic solid solutions of Rb2Mn1−xFexF5*H2O (x=0.50) as a function of temperature. Particular attention was paid to the region very close to the Neel point. The experimental spectra show definite relaxation effects which are attributed to short-range order with temperature dependent relaxation times. The solitor, model of non-linear excitations was applied. Experimental data on Fe(III) confirm the predicted exponential temperature dependence of the thermal excitation of moving domain walls.

High-precision measurement of the electron spin g factor of trapped atomic nitrogen in the endohedral fullerene N@C60

2018

Abstract The electronic g factor carries highly useful information about the electronic structure of a paramagnetic species, such as spin-orbit coupling and dia- or paramagnetic (de-)shielding due to local fields of surrounding electron pairs. However, in many cases, a near “spin-only” case is observed, in particular for light elements, necessitating accurate and precise measurement of the g factors. Such measurement is typically impeded by a “chicken and egg situation”: internal or external reference standards are used for relative comparison of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) Larmor frequencies. However, the g factor of the standard itself usually is subject to a significant uncerta…

57Co emission studies of cupric oxide

1990

Results on the incorporation, valence and spin states of Fe(Co) in CuO (with reference to similar studies on high temperature superconductors) and coupling of the Fe(Co) moment to the Cu magnetism in CuO are presented. Freshly prepared57Co: CuO shows two quadrupole doublets D1 and D2 withQ.S. of 2.49 and 1.52,I.S. of 0.35 and 0.70 mm/s and relative abundance of 74% and 26%, respectively at room temperature, the abundance being dependent on time in a sample exposed to ambient conditions and reaching 38 to 62% fifteen months after preparation. Below,TN=2251K, a typical combined magnetic-quadrupole interaction pattern is observed with a single saturation magnetic hfs of 25.6 T, central shift o…

Fingerprints of heavy scales in electroweak effective Lagrangians

2017

The couplings of the electroweak effective theory contain information on the heavy-mass scales which are no-longer present in the low-energy Lagrangian. We build a general effective Lagrangian, implementing the electroweak chiral symmetry breaking $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\to SU(2)_{L+R}$, which couples the known particle fields to heavier states with bosonic quantum numbers $J^P=0^\pm$ and $1^\pm$. We consider colour-singlet heavy fields that are in singlet or triplet representations of the electroweak group. Integrating out these heavy scales, we analyze the pattern of low-energy couplings among the light fields which are generated by the massive states. We adopt a generic non-linear realiz…

Generation of a 7.4 mT ESR doublet induced by γ rays in amorphous-SiO2

2000

Abstract Paramagnetic defects induced by γ rays, in a dose range from 1 to 1000 Mrad, have been investigated by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy in various types of natural and synthetic silica, having different OH content. A doublet with a field splitting of 7.4 mT, arising from the hyperfine interaction of an unpaired electron with a H nucleus associated with the H(I) center, was detected in all the investigated samples. This ESR structure exhibits a sublinear growth with the γ dose linearly correlated with the γ-induced photoluminescence band at 4.4 eV. The intensity ratio of these two signals depends on the OH content of the sample. Our results agree with a model in which the …

Bleaching and thermal recovery of PL emissions in natural silica

2000

Abstract We have investigated the bleaching of two photoluminescence (PL) emissions at 3.1 and 4.2 eV and the related growth of an electron spin resonance (ESR) signal, consisting in a hyperfine doublet split by 11.8 mT, in natural silica γ-irradiated by low doses, up to 1 Mrad. These observations definitely support the existence of a conversion mechanism, from optically active defects to paramagnetic ones. To further investigate this conversion process and the stability of the γ-induced paramagnetic centers, we performed PL and ESR measurements in samples that, after a γ exposure at 1 Mrad dose, were thermally treated at various temperatures ranging from 330 to 430 K. We found that the int…

Mössbauer and magnetic studies of mixed-valence linear chain compounds: Na3Fe2S4 and Na3Fe2Se4

1986

Mossbauer and magnetic data establish the two compounds Na3Fe2X4(X=S, Se) as mixed-valence linear chain compounds with rapid valence fluctuation. The compounds exhibit 1-dimensional antiferromagnetic coupling within the chains, and below a critical temperature a 3-dimensional ferrimagnetic ordering between the chains.
