Linear and nonlinear spin dynamics in multi-domain magnetoelastic antiferromagnets

2021

Antiferromagnets have recently surged as the prominent material platform for the next generation spintronics devices. Despite the remarkable abundance of antiferromagnets and the variety of their spin textures in nature, they share a widely common, if not ubiquitous, feature. Magnetoelasticity, which is expressed as strictions of different origin, relativistic and/or exchange, significantly contributes to the magnetic anisotropy of antiferromagnets. Crucially, a general theoretical framework able to address the role of domain walls on the spin dynamics in antiferromagnets in the presence of magnetoelasticity is lacking. Here we tackle this problem developing a very general macroscopic pheno…

Assessment of the CTOCD-DZ methodin a hierarchy of coupled cluster methods

2010

Gauge origin independent calculations of nuclear magnetic shielding tensors are carried out inside the formalism of the continuous transformation of the origin of the current density leading to formal annihilation of its diamagnetic contribution (CTOCD-DZ). We employ the unrelaxed linear response approach with a hierarchy of different coupled cluster methods in order to assess the importance of the level of approximation in the coupled cluster expansion. The basis set dependence of the computed nuclear magnetic shielding constants is also analyzed in the series of correlation consistent basis sets, with the aim of designing optimized basis sets of relatively small size.

Models of Metal Clusters and Quantum Dots

2007

The electronic structure of simple metal clusters and quantum dots is studied on the basis of the density functional theory and simple models. It is demonstrated that single-particle models explain well the gross features of deformation and magnetism in small clusters, nuclei and quantum dots and that the local density approximation can give valuable information of the internal structure of the manybody state.

Coexistence Curve Singularities at Critical End Points

1997

We report an extensive Monte Carlo study of critical end point behaviour in a symmetrical binary fluid mixture. On the basis of general scaling arguments, singular behaviour is predicted in the diameter of the liquid-gas coexistence curve as the critical end point is approached. The simulation results show clear evidence for this singularity, as well as confirming a previously predicted singularity in the coexistence chemical potential. Both singularities should be detectable experimentally.

Switching the Magnetic Vortex Core in a Single Nanoparticle.

2016

Imaging and manipulating the spin structure of nano- and mesoscale magnetic systems is a challenging topic in magnetism, yielding a wide range of spin phenomena such as skyrmions, hedgehog-like spin structures, or vortices. A key example has been provided by the vortex spin texture, which can be addressed in four independent states of magnetization, enabling the development of multibit magnetic storage media. Most of the works devoted to the study of the magnetization reversal mechanisms of the magnetic vortices have been focused on micrometer-size magnetic platelets. Here we report the experimental observation of the vortex state formation and annihilation in individual 25 nm molecular-bas…

Characterization ofE′δand triplet point defects in oxygen-deficient amorphous silicon dioxide

2006

We report an experimental study by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray irradiation induced point defects in oxygen deficient amorphous $\mathrm{Si}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ materials. We have found that three intrinsic ($\mathrm{E}^{\ensuremath{'}}{}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}$, $\mathrm{E}^{\ensuremath{'}}{}_{\ensuremath{\delta}}$, and triplet) and one extrinsic $({[\mathrm{Al}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}]}^{0})$ paramagnetic centers are induced. All the paramagnetic defects but $\mathrm{E}^{\ensuremath{'}}{}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}$ center are found to reach a concentration limit value for doses above ${10}^{3}\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{kGy}$, suggesting a generation process f…

Self-dressing and radiation reaction in classical electrodynamics

2002

A canonical approach to self-dressing in classical electrodynamics is presented. A slowly moving, rigid charge distribution is assumed to be completely deprived of the transverse electric E⊥ at an initial time t1' and the development of this component of the field is studied for t > t1' by solving the coupled charge-field Hamilton equations of motion. The theory is specialized to charge distributions of spherical symmetry, and in particular the point-charge, the spherical shell of charge and the spherical volume of charge are considered. As for the dynamics of the charge, the radiation-reaction force during self-dressing is obtained and it is shown to be substantially different at short tim…

Spin polarisation and dichroism in ARUPS from thin rare earth films

2001

Abstract In the present study, spin polarisation and dichroism were investigated in angular resolved VUV photoemission ARUPS from magnetised as well as paramagnetic rare earth surfaces. Thin Gd(0001) films were prepared epitaxially on W(110). The photoelectrons were excited by polarised synchrotron radiation from the BESSY I synchrotron radiation source. A SPLEED detector attached to an electron spectrometer mounted on a single axis goniometer was used for angular resolved spin analysis. The main part of this work focused on the characteristic surface state of Gd(0001) which shows a splitting, as previously observed by linear magnetic dichroism and spin polarised photoemission. The spin ana…

Improving the coherence properties of solid-state spin ensembles via optimized dynamical decoupling

2016

In this work, we optimize a dynamical decoupling (DD) protocol to improve the spin coherence properties of a dense ensemble of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond. Using liquid nitrogen-based cooling and DD microwave pulses, we increase the transverse coherence time T2 from ∼ 0.7 ms up to ∼ 30 ms. We extend previous work of single-axis (Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill) DD towards the preservation of arbitrary spin states. After performing a detailed analysis of pulse and detuning errors, we compare the performance of various DD protocols. We identify that the concatenated XY8 pulse sequences serves as the optimal control scheme for preserving an arbitrary spin state. Finally, we use the conc…
