Abstract This paper reports the synthesis and complete characterization (structural, spectroscopic and magnetic) of [Cu(HBIMAM)Cl(C4O4)]n · (H2O)n [BIMAM = bis(imidazol-2-yl)methylaminomethane]. This compound is made of infinite chains – running along c axis – built from [CuCl(HBIMAM)]+ units bridged together by μ-O1,O3-bis(monodentate) squarate anions. Non-covalent interactions (H-bonds and π–π) drive the build-up of an infinite three-dimensional array. The coordination polyhedron about the copper(II) ion is distorted square pyramidal. Metal-organic coordination frameworks based on mixed methylmalonate and 4,4′-bipiridine ligands: synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic properties

Five new complexes of formulae [M2(4,4′-bpy)(Memal)2X2]n [M = Fe(III) (2), Mn(II) (3), Co(II) (4), Ni(II) (5) and Zn(II) (6), and X = Cl−/OH− (2) and H2O (3–6); 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine and Memal = methylmalonate dianion] have been synthesized by following the previously reported procedure for [Cu2(4,4′-bpy)(Memal)2(H2O)2]n (1). Moreover, two new phases of the Cu(II)/Memal/4,4′-bpy system, namely {[Cu(4,4′-bpy)2][Cu(4,4′-bpy)2(Memal)(NO3)(H2O)]}n·nNO3·3.5nH2O (7) and [Cu(4,4′-bpy)2(Memal)(H2O)]n·nH2O (8), were obtained by varying the synthetic conditions. High-dimensional mixed-valence copper cyanide complexes: Syntheses, structural characterizations and magnetism

International audience; Reactions of CuCl 2 with different CN complexes in presence of a neutral ancillary ligand lead to two novel mixed-valence Cu complexes [Cu II (bpy)Cu I (CN) 3 ] n , 1 (bpy=2,2′-bipyridine) and {[Cu II (tn) 2 ][Cu I 4 (CN) 6 ]} n 2 (tn=1,3-diaminopropane). For compound 1, the asymmetric unit involves two Cu ions Cu1 and Cu2 (Cu I and Cu II centres, respectively) which strongly differ in their environments. The Cu1 ion presents a CuC 4 pseudo-tetrahedral geometry, while the Cu2 ion presents a CuN 5 slightly distorted square-pyramidal geometry. International audience; We describe herein the first examples of six-coordinate CoII single-ion magnets (SIMs) based on the β-diimine Mebik ligand [Mebik = bis(1-methylimidazol-2-yl)ketone]: two mononuclear [CoII(Rbik)2L2] complexes and one mixed-valence {CoIII2CoII}n chain of formulas [CoII(Mebik)(H2O)(dmso)(μ-NC)2CoIII2(μ-2,5-dpp)(CN)6]n·1.4nH2O (3) [L = NCS (1), NCSe (2) and 2,5-dpp = 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (3)]. The successful utilization of the “direct synthesis” approach yielded the unprecedented hexanuclear complex of formula [Co2MnII2MnIV2(L1)4Cl2(μ3-O)2(dmf)4]·2dmf (1) (H3L is the Schiff base derived from the condensation of salicylaldehyde and 3-aminopropane-1,2-diol). Single crystal X-ray analysis revealed that 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system P21/c and it contains a rare mixed-valence {CoIII2MnII2MnIV2(μ2-O)8(μ3-O)2} core where all metal ions are linked through the phenolato and alkoxo groups of the L3− ligand. This compound is made of infinite chains – running along the [1 1 0] direction – with copper ions bridged by μ1,3-squarato ligands. Furthermore, these chains are further cross-linked through additional squarate anions (with the same μ1,3-bis(monodentate) bridging mode) to generate two-dimensional sheets parallel to the ab plane.
