The phase diagram and the magnetic structure of nuclear spins in elemental copper below 60 nK

1992

Abstract The phase diagram for nuclear magnetic order is elemental copper and the corresponding ordering vectors were investigated by neutron diffraction at nanokelvin temperatures. The intermediate phase is characterized by an ordering vector (O 2 3 2/3 . This is the first time that this type of order is observed in an fcc antiferromagnet.

Ultrafine MnWO4 nanoparticles and their magnetic properties

2015

Abstract Ultrafine nanoparticles of MnWO4, a compound showing low-temperature multiferroicity in the bulk, were synthesized by the polyol method. Studies using powder X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, differential sedimentation and sorption techniques show the formation of a single-phase material, which is composed of MnWO4 nanoparticles with a prolate ellipsoidal shape (short axis of 4–5 nm, long axis of 11–12 nm) and an unprecedented high specific surface area of 166 m2 g−1. The as-prepared MnWO4 nanoparticles are readily crystalline after the liquid-phase synthesis. Temperature and field dependent magnetization measurements indica…

Cyanide-bridged iron(III)-cobalt(II) double zigzag ferromagnetic chains: two new molecular magnetic nanowires.

2003

and opened the perspective of a potential useof 1D magnetic molecular nanowires for information storage.Even though 1D magnetism is a very active area of research, such dynamic behavior was never detected before since it isnot clear how to fulfill experimentally the requirements of aperfect 1D Ising-type chain. This finding prompted us to lookcarefully at 1D systems containing anisotropic elements, suchas cobalt(ii) and low-spin iron(iii) centers that we synthesizedrecently,

Crystal growth, structure, magnetic properties and theoretical exchange interaction calculations of Cu2MnBO5

2016

Single crystals of ludwigite Cu2MnBO5 were synthesized by flux growth technique. The detailed structural and magnetic characterizations of the synthesized samples have been carried out. The cations composition of the studied crystal was determined using X-ray diffraction and EXAFS technique, the resulting composition differ from the content of the initial Mn2O3–CuO components of the flux. Magnetic susceptibility measurements and the calculations of the exchange integrals in frameworks of indirect coupling model revealed that monoclinic distortions strongly affect exchange interactions and appearance of magnetic ordering phase at the temperature T=93 K. The hypothesis of the existence of sev…

Magneto-structural correlations in self-assembled spin-transition nano-architectures of the [][2×2]-grid-type

2004

Abstract The magnetism of a series of tetranuclear complexes of the [ Fe II 4 L 4 ]( BF 4 ) 8 [2×2] -grid-type was investigated, revealing the occurrence of spin-transition (ST) behavior within this class of compounds. The phenomenon depends directly on the nature of the substituent R1 of the ligand L . All FeII ions in compounds with R1 substituents favoring strong ligand fields ( R 1 = H ; OH ) remain completely in the diamagnetic low-spin state. Only the complex bearing R1=Ph exhibits thermally induced ST behavior.

Magneto-optical Investigations of Nanostructured Materials Based on Single Molecule Magnets Monitor Strong Environmental Effects

2007

The determination of the magnetic properties of molecular magnets in environments similar to those used in spintronic devices is fundamental for the development of applications. Single-molecule magnets (SMMs) are molecular cluster systems that display magnetic hysteresis of dynamical origin at low temperature. As they behave like perfectly monodisperse nanomagnets and show clear macroscopic quantum effects in their magnetic properties, they are extremely appealing candidates for the forthcoming generation of molecular devices: they have been proposed as efficient systems for quantum computation, ultra-high-density magnetic recording media, and molecular spintronic systems. These attractive …

Structural and magnetic characterization of Pd nanoparticles encapsulated in apoferritin

2010

Pd nanoparticles exhibiting permanent magnetism at room temperature have been prepared within the apoferritin cavity. Pd nanoparticles in air and under an inert atmosphere were synthesized to study the influence of the aerobic and anaerobic conditions in the final magnetic properties. The surface of nanoparticles as well as the type of crystalline phase could determine the magnetic properties. X-ray powder diffraction, including Debye-function analysis, transmission electronic microscopy, and magnetization measurements have been used for characterizing the nanoparticles.
