Kansa, kansallisuus ja sivistys

2005

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan, millaisia merkityksiä kansakunnalle, kansalliselle kulttuurille ja niiden kehittymisen edellytyksille annettiin sanomalehti Suomettaressa vuonna 1863. Samana vuonna pidetyt, autonomian ajan toiset valtiopäivät on määritelty keskeiseksi tapahtumaksi Suomen valtiolliselle olemassaololle. Huomion kohteeksi nousevat kansa-…

Rauhan ja luottamuksen edistäjä? : Finljandskaja Gazetan Suomi-kuva 1900-1904

2012

Venäjän keisarikunta oli laajentunut nopeasti 1700- ja1800- luvuilla, jolloin valloitettujen alueiden väestö saatiin uskolliseksi erilaisia privilegioita myöntämällä. Näin tapahtui myös vuonna 1809 Venäjään liitetyssä Suomen suuriruhtinaskunnassa. 1800-luvun loppupuolella Venäjän politiikka valloittamiaan alueita kohtaan kuitenkin muuttui, ja vähemmistökansojen omaleimaisuutta pyrittiin vähentämään kulttuurisilla ja hallinnollisilla yhtenäistämistoimilla, eli venäläistämispolitiikalla. Yksi muutoksen tärkeimmistä syistä oli Venäjällä ja Suomessa vahvistuneet nationalistiset suuntaukset, joiden törmäyskurssille joutuneet kannattajat aiheuttivat suomalaisten ja venäläisten rauhanomaiseen rinn…

2016

Abstract Macroscytus raunoi, a new species of the genus Macroscytus Fieber, 1860, is described from the Morobe Province on the northern coast of Papua New Guinea. The new species is similar in its morphological characters to Australian M. arnhemicus J. A. Lis, 1999. Differences in morphology and male genitalia which enable separation of both species are provided.

Decreasing muscle performance associated with increasing disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

2018

Objectives Increasing evidence suggests that inflammation has a detrimental effect on muscle strength. Our objective was to analyse the association between muscle performance and different disease activity levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Method A total of 199 consecutive outpatients were subject to cross-sectional assessment. Measurements of grip strength, endurance of the upper and lower limbs and trunk strength were combined as a muscle performance composite score (MPCS), using a standardised method. The disease activity for 28 joints (DAS28), radiographs of small joints (Larsen score), rheumatoid factor, body mass index (BMI), comorbidities and anti-rheumatic drugs wer…

Etiological factors of chronic hepatitis in Italy: a 2014 national survey.

2017

Background The last Italian prevalence survey on chronic hepatitis (CH) conducted in 2001 showed that the hepatitis C virus (HCV) was the main agent associated with CH. Aim The aim of this study was to evaluate epidemiological changes in CH occurring after 13 years. Patients and methods Enrollment of 1392 CH consecutive patients referred to 16 Italian liver units in 2014 scattered all over the country (four in the North, four in the Center, four in the South, and four in the Islands) was performed. Results The mean age of the patients was 58.3 years, with a sex ratio (male/female) of 1.5. HCV infection (also with other etiologies) continues to be the most prevalent etiology (58.1%). However…

A four-session acceptance and commitment therapy based intervention for depressive symptoms delivered by masters degree level psychology students: a …

2013

Background:Depressive symptoms are one of the main reasons for seeking psychological help. Shorter interventions using briefly trained therapists could offer a solution to the ever-rising need for early and easily applicable psychological treatments.Aims:The current study examines the effectiveness of a four-session Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based treatment for self-reported depressive symptoms administered by Masters level psychology students.Method:This paper reports the effectiveness of a brief intervention compared to a waiting list control (WLC) group. Participants were randomized into two groups: ACT (n= 28) and waiting list (n= 29). Long-term effects were examined using…

Measurement Properties of Smartphone Approaches to Assess Physical Activity in Healthy Young People: Systematic Review

2022

Background Physical inactivity is a preventable risk factor for several chronic diseases and one of the driving forces behind the growing global burden of disease. Recent evidence has shown that interventions using mobile smartphone apps can promote a significant increase in physical activity (PA) levels. However, the accuracy and reliability of using apps is unknown. Objective The aim of our review was to determine the accuracy and reliability of using mobile apps to measure PA levels in young people. We conducted a systematic review guided by PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). Methods Studies published from 2007 to 2020 were sourced from 8 databa…
