A multifunctional exo-β-1,3-glucanase (WaExg2) was purified from the culture supernatant of the yeast Wickerhamomyces anomalus AS1. The enzyme was identified by mass spectroscopic analysis of tryptic peptide fragments and the encoding gene WaEXG2 was sequenced. The latter codes for a protein of 427 amino acids, beginning with a probable signal peptide (17 aa) for secretion. The mature protein has a molecular mass of 47 456 Da with a calculated pI of 4.84. The somewhat higher mass of the protein in SDS–PAGE might be due to bound carbohydrates. Presumptive disulphide bridges confer a high compactness to the molecule. Ābeles ir komerciāli nozīmīgs kultūraugs visā pasaulē, bet ik gadu nozīmīgus bojājumus rada patogēnās sēnes Venturia inaequalis izraisītais ābeļu kraupis. Kraupja ierobežošana pārsvarā balstīta uz intensīvu un regulāru pesticīdu izmantošanu, tādējādi radot negatīvu ietekmi uz vidi un cilvēku veselību. Alternatīva ir izveidot kraupja rezistentas ābeļu šķirnes. Jau novērots, ka monogēna rezistence pret kraupi nav ilgnoturīga un to varētu uzlabot, iekļaujot vairākus rezistences gēnus vienā auga genotipā jeb gēnus piramidējot. Variation in the Sizes of Chthamalid Barnacle Post-Settlement Cyprids on European Shores

As part of a wider study on the settlement and recruitment of Chthamalus spp. in Europe, this study investigated whether chthamalid cyprids can be separated by length on a European scale. Variation in cyprid length with latitude and temporal variation at selected localities were also examined. The lengths of cyprids collected between 1996-1999 on nine rocky shores in Europe are reported. Elminius modestus cyprids were found only at Roscoff, NW France and could be distinguished due to their Carapace shape and length. Use of Biostimulants for Organic Apple Production: Effects on Tree Growth, Yield, and Fruit Quality at Harvest and During Storage

The experiment was conducted during two consecutive seasons (years 2016 and 2017) in an organic apple orchard of the cultivar Jonathan. Several biostimulants were tested (10 in total), including humic acids, macro and micro seaweed extracts, alfalfa protein hydrolysate, amino acids alone or in combination with zinc, B-group vitamins, chitosan and a commercial product containing silicon. Treatments were performed at weekly intervals, starting from the end of May until mid-August. Voldemar Langenfeld's list of Malus Mill. herbaria

Veicot ābeļu ģints (Malus Mill.) sistemātiku, tās morfoloģijas, evolūcijas un filoģenēzes pētniecību, profesors Voldemārs Langenfelds (1923 – 2007) ir izveidojis vairāk kā 600 lapu lielu ābeļu herbāriju. Herbāriji ievākti laikā no 1956. līdz 1969. gadam Latvijā un ārpus tās robežām. 1990. gadu beigās zinātnieks šo herbāriju nodeva Latvijas Universitātes Muzejam un tie glabājas Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās. Lielākā daļa (407) ir iekļauti kolekcijā Herbarium Latvicum (RIG II), pārējie – Herbarium Generale, 29 herbāriji atrodas ārpus minētajām kolekcijām. Šajos sarakstos sniegti dati par visiem V. Langenfelda ābeļu herbārijiem, kas glabājas LU Muzejā.

Profesora Voldemāra Langenfelda (1923–2007) sagatavots mācību materiāls par ābeļu ģinti (Mallus Mill.). Zīmējusi viņa sieva Astrīda Langenfelde. Komplektā trūkst 1. kartītes. Materiāls glabājās Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijā.
