Business Process Reference Models: Survey and Classification

2006

Within the Information Systems field, reference models are well-known for many years. The aim of this paper is to survey and to describe reference models for business processes. Our analysis of 30 process reference models is based on a framework consisting of criteria such as application domain, used process modeling languages, model's size, known evaluations and applications of process reference models. Furthermore, we identify model domains, which have been dealt with, describe similarities and differences between the available process reference models, and point to open research questions.

A Basic View on Models of Nature and the Concept of “Sustainability”

2010

The discussion below is primarily connected to the challenge of agricultural crop production in western and northern Europe by the global change of climate (Box IV.3), but the ideas are of a general character and could therefore be extended outside this geographical area. We believe that strategic thinking and strategic decisions on agriculture and the way of preparing tactical decisions have to be reconsidered everywhere.

Teaching Green Analytical and Synthesis Chemistry: Performing Laboratory Experiments in a Greener Way

2019

Our future challenges in resource, environmental and societal sustainability demand efficient and benign-by-design scientific technologies for working with chemical processes and products. In this chapter, we have considered the major aspects of green analytical and synthetic chemistry as a new paradigm and its integration with higher education course curriculum. Teaching green analytical chemistry must be focused on analytical parameters and practices more than on the incorporation of the so-called green parameters to the basic analytical properties. Thus accuracy, representativeness, traceability, sensitivity and selectivity in the renewed paradigmatic chemistry have been complemented and…

In vivo models and decision trees for formulation development in early drug development: A review of current practices and recommendations for biopha…

2018

The ability to predict new chemical entity performance using in vivo animal models has been under investigation for more than two decades. Pharmaceutical companies use their own strategies to make decisions on the most appropriate formulation starting early in development. In this paper the biopharmaceutical decision trees available in four EFPIA partners (Bayer, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Meyers Squibb and Janssen) were discussed by 7 companies of which 4 had no decision tree currently defined. The strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement are discussed for each decision tree. Both pharmacokineticists and preformulation scientists at the drug discovery & development interf…

Electroanalytical techniques in archaeological and art conservation

2017

[EN] The application of electrochemical techniques for obtaining analytical information of interest in the fields of archaeometry, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage goods is reviewed. Focused on voltammetry of immobilised particles and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques, electrochemical measurements offer valuable information for identifying and quantifying components, tracing provenances and manufacturing techniques and provide new tools for authentication and dating.

Combining workload balance and patient priority maximisation in operating room planning through hierarchical multi-objective optimisation

2022

Abstract Previous analysis suggested the opportunity to consider the preferences of different stakeholders (hospital, patients, doctors and nurses) through the adoption of both patient priority maximisation and workload balance as performance criteria. The aim of this paper is to develop an effective and efficient solution approach for the operating room planning and scheduling capable to take into account the patient priority maximisation and workload balance criteria at the same time. This work is inspired by the need of a deeper understanding of the quality of the solutions obtained when a combination of the two criteria leads the OR planning decisions. Starting from a hierarchical multi…

Producer's spatial equilibrium with a fuzzy constraint

1980

The classical theory of the producer’s equilibrium rests on two sets of particularly restrictive hypotheses. First it is implicitely assumed that all inputs and outputs are located in a single place where the producer is also implanted and where the production is carried out. Next it is assumed that the producer follows a precise behaviour pattern, by this we mean that the producer has complete information concerning the conditions of hisproductive activity and he has perfect command over both the set of inputs and the set of outputs; he realises the maximum profit allowed by the technological constraint which limits his possible actions and by the given price system. The aim of this study …

An Overview of Cloud Computing Adoption Challenges in the Norwegian Context

2014

Cloud computing is dominating European countries' Information and Communication Technology (ICT) agenda. Although the European cloud market is mostly mature, there are still challenges to overcome. Norway is one of the European countries facing such challenges, despite it is a developed country in terms of quality of life and ICT development. This paper identifies the current state of cloud computing adoption challenges in Europe in general and Norway in specific, and the way they are addressed. This is achieved through analyzing research articles, reports published by consulting companies and official bodies, official online news articles, and documents published by official authorities. T…
