Cultural identification, perceived discrimination and sense of community as predictors of life satisfaction among foreign partners of intercultural f…

2014

The  aim  of  this  paper  was  to  analyze  how  cultural  identification,  perceived  discrimination   and  the  sense  of  community  are  related  to  life  satisfaction  among  foreign  partners  in  intercultural   families.   The  study  compared  105  and  95  foreign  partners  in  mixed  families  resident  in  Italy  and  Spain,   respectively.  The  phenomenon  in  both  countries  displays  similar  sociodemographic  aspects.  In   contrast  to  Social  Identity  Theory,  the  results  show  that  in  both  groups  the  foreign  partner's   identification  with  their  own  ethnic-‐cultural  group  is  not  associated  with  life  satisfaction,  nor  does  it   increase  perce…

L'allocation de ressources par élève dans le système éducatif français : point de vue d'un économiste

1993

This article examines why it is interesting to have a better knowledge of unit costs in educational systems, and to analyse differences between levels of education, between schools and between countries. It underlines the fact that few studies have been carried out up to now, and that little agreement exists among specialists concerning the methodologies for estimating costs. In spite or these deficiencies in available information, the author reviews existing case studies in France and in the world, and shows that extensive possibilities of improving the cost-effectiveness of ressources allocation still exist. Comparisons between France and its economic partners show that French unit costs …

A spatial econometric analysis of geographic spillovers and growth for European regions, 1980-1995

2001

The aim of this paper is to consider the geographical dimension of data in the estimation of the convergence of European regions and to emphasize geographic spillovers in regional economic growth phenomena. In a sample of 138 European regions over the 1980-1995 period, we show that the unconditional /? -convergence model is misspecified due to spatially autocorrelated errors. Its estimation by Ordinary Least Squares leads to inefficientestimators and invalid statistical inference. Using spatial econometric methods and a distance based weight matrix we then estimate an alternative specification, which takes into account the spatial autocorrelation detected and leads to reliable statistical i…

La dollarisation des économies émergentes

2002

Current discussions about dollarization/euroization are built on substitution models and cost/benefits analysis. This working paper aims to go beyond these explanations based on a functionalist definition of money. An institutionalist definition of money advocates analyzing de facto dollarization more broadly as a legitimacy crisis of the unit of account that damages monetary sovereignty and of whom authorities try to check in a kind o f institutional resistance. A macroeconomic definition of money involves questionning full and de jure dollarization consistency with both of principles guiding the monetary economy of production: (1) endogeneity of money; (2) merger between monetary space an…

Spatial econometrics (1, Spatial autocorrelation)

2000

Spatial econometric methods aim at taking into account the two special characteristics of spatial data: spatial autocorrelation, which is the lack of independence between geographical observations, and spatial heterogeneity, which is related to the differentiation of variables and behaviors in space. These techniques have been mostly developed the last ten years and are more often applied in empirical studies with geographical data. The aim of this article is to present the way spatial autocorrelation and spatial heterogeneity can be incorporated in regression relationships and to present the estimation and inference procedures adapted to the models incorporating these two effects. This arti…

2011

Standards for the evaluation of management scholars lead more and more to exclude forms of scientific production other than the articles published in international scientific journals. The aim of this paper is to test the validity of these norms by analyzing the production of all university professors in management science, based on the «influen- tial» publications in Google Scholar. The articles published in internation- al journals represent only 35 % of in- fluential publications and collect only 40.2 % of citations. Books still repre- sent a very important part and the in- fluence of the different media varies widely across sub-disciplinary fields (finance, marketing, etc.). This articl…
