Mechanical behavior of implant assisted removable partial denture for Kennedy class II

2019

Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T01:22:13Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-01-01 Background: This study evaluated the mechanical response of a removable partial denture (RPD) in Kennedy Class II according to being associated or not with implants. Material and Methods: Four RPDs were manufactured for a Kennedy Class II: CRPD-Conventional RPD, RPD+ 1M, RPD+2M and RPD+12M, respectively, signifying implant assisted RPDs with the implant installed in the first molar, second molar, and in the first and second molars. The finite element method was used to determine the most damaged support tooth under compressive load (300N, 10s) and strain gauge analysis was used to ev…

Effect of orthodontic treatment involving first premolar extractions on mandibular third molar angulation and retromolar space

2016

Background Third molars present more problems than other teeth because they are the last teeth to erupt, and so it is important to assess their development when designing an orthodontic treatment plan. The aim of this study was to compare the angulation of the mandibular third molar and retromolar space before and after orthodontic treatment in cases involving first premolar extraction. Material and methods 76 patients, 59 women (77.63%) and 17 men (22.36%), were recruited from the Orthodontics Clinic at Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla (Mexico). Panoramic radiographs were analyzed before and after orthodontic treatment that included first premolar extractions, measuring retromolar…

Dental caries experience, tooth surface distribution and associated factors in 6- and 13- year- old school children from Davangere, India

2012

Objectives: The objective of the present study was to investigate the caries experience and patterns in a sample of 6- and 13- year old school children and to estimate the contributing roles of the likely risk indicators. Study design: Data were obtained from 400 (196, 6-year old and 204, 13-year old) school children. A questionnaire was sent to the children parents to measure socioeconomic, socio-demographic, and behavioral variables. Dental caries detection was performed according to the World Health Organization criteria (dmft and DMFT). The mean dmft/DMFT scores were analysed either as a continuous (calculating means and standard deviations) or as a categorical variable (providing propo…

Evaluation of accuracy of various impression techniques and impression materials in recording multiple implants placed unilaterally in a partially ed…

2018

Background Various factors like implant angulation, type of impression material and tray type affects the implant impression accuracy. To date limited in-vitro studies were carried out on the implant impression accuracy of unilateral partially edentulous arches. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of 0o, 15o and 25o implant angulations on impression accuracy in simulated master casts of unilateral partially edentulous situation using different impression materials and tray selections. Material and Methods 30 replicas (N = 30) of a resin matrix (control) containing four implant analogues placed unilaterally from the midline till the region of second molar at an angulation of…

Marginal adaptation of three-unit interim restorations fabricated by the CAD-CA systems and the direct method before and after thermocycling

2020

Background Limited information is available regarding the marginal adaptation of three-unit interim restorations fabricated by different techniques from different materials. Also, the efficacy of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) systems for their fabrication is still questionable. This study aimed to assess the marginal adaptation of three-unit interim restorations fabricated by the CAD-CAM systems and the direct method from different materials before and after thermocycling. Material and Methods A sound mandibular second premolar and a second molar were prepared for a three-unit all-ceramic restoration. Metal dies were fabricated to simulate a case of mandibular…

Root canal morphology and configuration of 123 maxillary second molars by means of micro-CT.

2017

The aim of this study was to investigate the root canal configuration, accessory canals and number of main foramina of 123 maxillary second molars by means of micro-computed tomography. The teeth were scanned and reproduced with 3D software imaging. The root canal configuration and number of main foramina were evaluated by means of a four-digit system. The morphological complexity of human maxillary second molars is depicted by the number of accessory and connecting canals. The most frequently observed root canal configurations in the mesiobuccal root were 2-2-2/2 (19.5%), 2-2-1/1 (14.6%) and 2-1-1/1 (13.0%). A 1-1-1/1 configuration was observed in 93.5% and in 96.7% in the distobuccal and …

Endodontic management of single rooted immature mandibular second molar with single canal using MTA and platelet-rich fibrin membrane barrier: A case…

2011

An immature tooth with pulpal necrosis and periapical pathology imposes a great difficulty to the endodontists. Endodontic treatment options for such teeth consist of conventional apexification procedure with and without apical barriers. Various materials have been tried as apical matrix in the past. This article demonstrates the newer concept of using platelet rich fibrin membrane as an apical matrix barrier for stabilization of MTA in root end apexification procedure. Platelet Rich Fibrin is an autologous fibrin matrix containing a large quantity of platelet and leukocyte cytokines, which enhance healing by release of growth factors. This case report represents successful management of a …

Prosthetic rehabilitation with dental implants after treatment of a keratocystic odontogenic tumor. Case report

2011

Keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT), formerly known as the odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is a benign intraosseous lesion, characterized by invasive growth and high rate of recurrences. Although it is not frequently seen, KCOT may be associated with unerupted teeth and without relevant histopathological examinations, might be mistaken with dentigerous cyst. A 26 year-old male patient referred to our department with complaints of two months persisting painless swelling on the left side of mandible. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed an impaction of the horizontally positioned left lower second premolar surrounded by a well-circumscribed radiolucent mass, located between the left…

Juvenile central ossifying fibroma of the mandible: a case report

2010

Central ossifying fibroma is a rare fibro-osseous neoplasm in young children. It is highly aggressive and has a strong tendency to recur. We describe an 11-year-old girl with juvenile central ossifying fibromas of the mandible that caused obstruction of tooth eruption of the lower left second premolar. Oral examination revealed the presence of the primary lower left second molar and a small bony hard swelling over the left side of the mandibular body. After a computed tomographic scan, an incisional biopsy was performed, and the lesion proved to be a juvenile ossifying fibroma. Although this tumor often recurs early, and many authors suggest radical en bloc resection, we performed a more co…
