Morphology and preliminary biomechanical interpretation of mandibular sutures in Metoposaurus krasiejowensis (Temnospondyli, Stereospondyli) from the…
2019
Altres ajuts: CERCA Programme/Generalitat de Catalunya The morphology of the mandibular sutures in the Late Triassic temnospondyl Metoposaurus krasiejowensis has been examined in order to determine their role in mandible biomechanics. Until now, no histological studies of mandibular sutures in extinct vertebrates were performed, in contrast to cranial sutures. As a consequence, mandibular suture interpretations herein are based mainly on comparisons with previous studies of cranial sutures and with 3D cranial finite element analysis of this species. A total of 32 standard thin sections were studied under standard petrographic microscope observations in order to differentiate the morphology …
Periodontal impact of surgically induced dental lesions in mandibular osteodistraction: An animal study.
2009
SUMMARY. Aim: The objective of the study was to evaluatethe impact of dental lesions on the periodontium, in a canine model of mandibular osteodistraction. Material and methods: In six adult male Beagle dogs, an osteotomy was made between the right second lateral incisor and canine, and a distraction device placed. The roots adjacent to the osteotomy were deliberately damaged by the reciprocating saw and chisel, with preservation of the attached gingiva. The osteodistraction protocol used was: latency of 7 days, rate of distraction 1 mm per day, and rhythm once a day for 5 days. Vital staining was carried out with tetracycline, Xylenol Orange and Calcein Green. The dogs were sacrificed afte…
Tomographic study of Jaw bone changes in patients with bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis
2020
Background Bisphosphonates (BP) are synthetic pyrophosphate-like substances with antiresorptive properties and specifically affect osteoclastic activity. In 2007, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) defined diagnostic criteria for Osteonecrosis of the Jaws Associated with Bisphosponates (BRONJ). BRONJ is mainly diagnosed by clinical features, but the detection of early bone changes by imaging may help prevent and better understand the disease. The objective of this study was to evaluate maxillary changes in CBCT in patients using BP. Material and methods All included patients were diagnosed with osteonecrosis and received bisphosphonate drugs in the last ten …
Recurrent central giant cell granuloma in the mandible: surgical treatment and dental implant restoration.
2007
Central giant cell granuloma is an uncommon benign intraosseus lesion of jaws. Traditional treatment has been local curettage, although aggressive sub-types have a high tendency to recur. This patient report describes a recurrent central giant cell granuloma involving the body of the mandible in a 48-year-old-woman. Initial treatment of lesion consisted of curettage and peripheral ostectomy. When recurrence was detected one year later, an en bloc resection and defect regeneration with a composite bone graft of autogenous bone, xenograft, and autologous platelet-rich plasma was carried out. Adequate new bone formation was observed during follow-up of 24 months. Two dental implants were place…
