This paper examines the close relationships linking the scholars of Europe in the 16th century. The most of the impulses at the time were emanating from Italy, but this paper aims to show that, contrary to what is commonly supposed, the German-speaking areas, on receiving these stimuli, were also enriching them with their own contributions; and these, in their turn, were then received in Italy, and occasionally 403 contributed to generating innovation that seemed to be actually coming from Italy. This paper considers the phenomenon of migration, by proposing a case study upon the migration of Romanians in Italy. As a consequence of the access of Romania in the UE in January 2007, Romanians became citizens of UE, but, nevertheless, they are not aware of their rights and juridical statute and continue to live in a state of subordination and humility in their interaction with their employers. They do not rebel, since they are afraid of losing their working place. In recent years, in Italy the composition of migration stream has undergone significant changes. Some reasons refer to the short-time (eg,the Arab Spring), but other events, such as the entry into the European Union of some countries, may have durable social, economic and cultural effects. This is the case of the Romanian migration to Italy. In Sicily this flow has a greater importance than in other regions and deserves special attention from both researchers and policy makers. In this paper we analyze some settlement aspects of migration of Romanians and the related process of integration.

In questo contributo si esamina uno straordinario caso di coesistenza culturale e religiosa che dura da 500 anni e che mai ha provocato episodi di razzismo o di intolleranza: si tratta del caso delle comunità Aebereshe in Sicilia. Anzi notevole è stato il loro contributo sul piano culturale e politico (sei pensi solo a Francesco Crispi). Questa lezione di civiltà è da ricordare quando nel nostro mondo del nuovo millennio rinascono impetuose le teorie e pratiche localistiche, ipernazionaliste e violente. Il dibattito sulle piccole patrie ritorna in Europa con la rinascita di una grande patria cioè la Germania (riunita). Quali le conseguenze e il dibattito storico?
