European social model in making : European Commission reporting on Romania between 1999-2006
2007
The European Union is often described as being an economic giant but a political dwarf. True enough, the European project started with economics, but has gone a long way since the time that it was only about economy. In Europe, there are obviously many different types of social models and welfare regimes. In addition to national models and regimes, there is an ongoing process at the European level that can be characterised as a search for “European social model”. This process involves both the institutions of the European Union as well as the member states. Political (and economic) battle that is being waged concentrates on what “European social model” should look like and who gets to defin…

A romániai bánsági (bánáti) tolerancia és többnyelvűség a nyelvi ideológiák tükrében
2004
Engem nyelvészként természetszerűen a többnyelvűség kérdése érdekelt, magyarul beszélőkkel készítettem interjúkat. Elemzésemben elsősorban az interjúkban előforduló nyelvi ideológiákra összpontosítok, azaz arra, hogyan vélekednek a Bánságban az ott beszélt nyelvekről és a többnyelvűségről. peer…
SOUTH AMERICAN COLLABORATION IN SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS ON LEISHMANIASIS: BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS IN SCOPUS (2000-2011)

Nivolumab Enhances In Vitro Effector Functions of PD-1+ T-Lymphocytes and Leishmania-Infected Human Myeloid Cells in a Host Cell-Dependent Manner
2017
Functional impairment of T-cells and a concomitant augmented expression of programmed death-1 (PD-1) have been observed in visceral leishmaniasis patients, as well as in experimental models for visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis. The PD-1/PD-1-ligand (PD-1/PD-L) interaction negatively regulates T-cell effector functions, which are required for parasite control during leishmaniasis. The aim of this study was to elucidate the impact of the PD-1/PD-L axis in a human primary in vitro infection model of Leishmania major (Lm). Blocking the PD-1/PD-L interaction with nivolumab increased T-cell proliferation and release of the proinflammatory cytokines TNFα and IFNγ during the cocultivation of Lm…
Loss Aversion and Risk Aversion in Non-Clinical Negative Symptoms and Hypomania
2020
In the field of behavioral decision-making, “loss aversion” is a behavioral phenomenon in which individuals show a higher sensitivity to potential losses than to gains. Conversely, “risk averse” individuals have an enhanced sensitivity/aversion to options with uncertain consequences. Here we examine whether hypomania or negative symptoms predict the degree of these choice biases. We chose to study these two symptom dimensions because they present a common theme across many syndromes with compromised decision-making. In our exploratory study, we employed a non-clinical sample to dissociate the hypomanic from negative symptom dimension regarding choice behavior. We randomly selected a sample …
Celebrating the royal liturgy within the national calendrical memory – The politics of festive time in the Romanian Kingdom, 1866–1947
2016
The paper analyzes the calendrical struggles over mastering symbolic time in Romanian modern history by scrutinizing the logic of constructing, deconstructing, and reconstructing a temporal order made up of political holidays celebrated within a festive calendar. It looks, first, at how the constitutional monarchic political order established in 1866 with the enthronement of Carol I as Ruling Prince of Romania developed a royal festive calendar pillared on the National Day of the 10th of May. By analyzing the making of the royal temporal order organized within a national festive calendar, three techniques of calendrical construction are identified and detailed: a) calendrical shifting, b) c…
Leadership – A Key Factor to a Succesful Organization – Part II
2013
Abstract Leadership is the well-known and often discussed process nowadays of influence exerted by one person, accepted and followed by all, over the other factors (human resource) that he works with, in order to reach the organizational goals. This research is the second part of a long cycle aimed to determine the knowledge and application of the leadership concept in the Romanian organizations considering the influences imposed by the external environment, often characterized by frequent changes. These changes may have positive or negative effects on organizations, and that is why organizations have to react fast in order to take advantage of opportunities and to protect from threats. We …
