Characteristics of lysosomal phosphomannosyl-enzyme receptors in the rat heart

The receptor system recognizing mannose 6-phosphate groups of lysosomal enzymes has been characterized, e.g. in fibroblasts and liver cells. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the presence of a phosphomannosyl receptor system in rat heart muscle. The characterization of receptors was accomplished with beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase (beta-GA) secreted by rat embryo fibroblasts after ammonium chloride stimulation. The receptor binding of ligand enzymes was saturated by adding increasing concentrations of beta-GA and the binding increased linearly when the content of membrane protein was increased. Langerin+ DCs regulate innate IL-17 production in the oral mucosa during Candida albicans-mediated infection

The opportunistic fungal pathogen Candida albicans frequently causes diseases such as oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC) in immunocompromised individuals. Although it is well appreciated that the cytokine IL-17 is crucial for protective immunity against OPC, the cellular source and the regulation of this cytokine during infection are still a matter of debate. Distinct Roles of Classical and Lectin Pathways of Complement in Preeclamptic Placentae

Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by defective vascular remodeling in maternal decidua responsible for reduced blood flow leading to functional and structural alterations in the placenta. We have investigated the contribution of the complement system to decidual vascular changes and showed that trophoblasts surrounding unremodeled vessels prevalent in preeclamptic decidua fail to express C1q that are clearly detected in cells around remodeled vessels predominant in control placenta. This research aimed to extract mucilage polysaccharides (MP) from Amanita hemibapha subspecies javanica (Corner and Bas), and further fractionate them using anion-exchange chromatography, yielding two fractions (MPF1 and MPF2). The crude extract, and fractions mainly consisted of carbohydrates (83.5–93.2%) with minor amounts of proteins (5.40–7.20%), and sulphates (1.40–9.30%). Determination of the monosaccharide composition revealed that glucose was the major unit, followed by galactose, mannose, rhamnose, and arabinose.
