The Sapiehas and the Potockis were amongst the most influential families of the Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth. The latter family owned numerous estates in Ukraine, which were directly under threat from marching Lithuanian soldiers. Kazimierz Jan Sapieha, Grand Hetman of Lithuania was in charge of the said estates. Due to cooperation of the two magnate families, he attempted to shield the Potockis’ estates and possessions from Lithuanian troops marching to or returning from the war with Turkey. The Sicilian land tenure was always characterized by the presence of latifundium. Such a land exploitation intimately influenced not only the farming techniques but also the population identity and farms’ typology. The Sicilian (and south-Italian) common typological form of rural estate is the masseria. More particularly, it is a large fortified farm built to control and manage a vast land-property, the old fiefdoms. The author deals with the issue concerning the conferment of various grants – including the Roman citizenship, and also the right of legal marriage with foreign women, immunity from taxation for ten years, new settlers, the right to the property of citizens killed in the war – by the Emperor Claudius in favor of the inhabitants of Volubilis in Mauretania through the analysis of three well-known inscriptions which record these benefits which the community have gained from Claudius: namely, IAMLat 369, 370a, 448.
Assessing Benthic Macroinvertebrates in Relations to Environmental Variables and Revitalisation Works

Abstract Macroinvertebrates of two ex-manor ponds located in Chroscina, Opole Region (Poland) were studied from 2015 to 2018 to investigate their community composition and diversity and evaluate the heterogeneity of communities on spatial and temporal scale referring to environmental variables and revitalisation work. A total of 32 taxa were recorded (at the family level, except Oligochaeta), 13 of which were Ephemeroptera, Odonata and Trichoptera, recognised as sensitive groups in lentic ecosystems.
