Spatial Cognition 2020/1: Book of abstracts : August 2-4, 2021, University of Latvia
2021
Spatial Cognition is concerned with the acquisition, development, representation, organization, and use of knowledge about spatial objects in real, virtual or hybrid environments and processed by human or artificial agents. Spatial Cognition includes research from different fields insofar as they are concerned with cognitive agents and space, such as cognitive and developmental psychology, linguistics, computer science, geography, cartography, philosophy, neuroscience, and education. Research issues in the field range from the investigation of human spatial cognition to mobile robot navigation, including topics such as wayfinding, spatial planning, spatial learning, internal and external re…
Active compression-decompression cardiopulmonary resuscitation — Instructor and student manual for teaching and training
1996
In an attempt to standardize the teaching and training of active compression-decompression cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ACD-CPR), a group of leading emergency physicians, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, paramedics and nurses with practical, theoretical, educational, and scientific experience in the subject met in June 1995. The group was called The International Working Group of Teaching and Training Active Compression-Decompression CPR. The group was 'born' as a result of the first International Conference of Active Compression-Decompression CPR held in Copenhagen in March 1995. The following paper describes the background, development and text of and ACD-CPR course manual for both stu…
Inter- and intra-tester reliability of selected clinical tests in examining patients with early phase lumbar spine and sacroiliac joint pain and dysf…
2010
AbstractOf all patients with low back pain (LBP), 85% are diagnosed as “non-specific lumbar pain”. It has been postulated that the only reliable test is a straight leg raise test for detecting sciatic pain, and for other diagnostic subgroups, tests are of varying value. Only a few standardized tests exist to test function, inspection, mobility, pain, muscle flexibility or stability for patients with early phase lumbar spine and sacroiliac joint pain and dysfunction in the non-laboratory setting. The aim of this study was therefore to examine the inter- and intra-tester reliability of selected standardized clinical tests. Fifteen eligible, consecutive and voluntary LBP patients (aged 18–56 y…

Strength training in treatment of chronic neck pain
2022
Background: Chronic non-specific neck pain is common in modern industrialized countries causing suffering, disability and considerable economical losses for individuals and society. Treatment is commonly advice for stretching and strength exercises in primary health care. However, if improvements are not satisfactory, patients may seek specialist care. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of multimodal rehabilitation in treatment of chronic neck pain. Methods: The study group comprised of 56 patients with chronic neck pain, who participated rehabilitation for three weeks and one-week follow-up period after eight months at an inpatient rehabilitation facility. The aim …
Effects of tDCS on Bimanual Motor Skills: A Brief Review.
2018
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that allows the modulation of cortical excitability as well as neuroplastic reorganization using a weak constant current applied through the skull on the cerebral cortex. TDCS has been found to improve motor performance in general and motor learning in particular. However, these effects have been reported almost exclusively for unimanual motor tasks such as serial reaction time tasks, adaptation tasks, or visuo-motor tracking. Despite the importance of bimanual actions in most activities of daily living, only few studies have investigated the effects of tDCS on bimanual motor skills. The objectives …
