Brown and green LAI mapping through spectral indices

Abstract When crops senescence, leaves remain until they fall off or are harvested. Hence, leaf area index (LAI) stays high even when chlorophyll content degrades to zero. Current LAI approaches from remote sensing techniques are not optimized for estimating LAI of senescent vegetation. In this paper a two-step approach has been proposed to realize simultaneous LAI mapping over green and senescent croplands. The first step separates green from brown LAI by means of a newly proposed index, ‘Green Brown Vegetation Index (GBVI)’. Abstract Application of FAO-56 methodology for the assessment of reference evapotranspiration, ET 0 , is challenging in areas of the world with sparse meteorological network stations. For this reason alternative procedures using remotely observed data have been proposed in the literature. In this work, a simplified version of the Makkink approach [J. Inst. Wat. The high osmolarity glycerol (HOG) pathway, composed of membrane-associated osmosensors, adaptor proteins and core signaling kinases, is essential for the survival of yeast cells under hyper-osmotic stress. Here, we studied how the MAPKKK Ste11 might change its protein interaction profile during acute stress exposure, with an emphasis on the sensory system of the so-called Sho1/Msb2 signaling branch. Apoptosis regulators of the Bcl-2 family associate with intracellular membranes from mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum, where they perform their function. The activity of these proteins is related to the release of apoptogenic factors, sequestered in the mitochondria, to the cytoplasm, probably through the formation of ion and/or protein transport channels. Mapping of corrosion products of highly altered archeological iron using voltammetry of microparticles

The application of the voltammetry of microparticles to identify corrosion products on different localizations of highly altered archeological iron pieces is described. The use of graphite pencil methodology permits to mapping different corrosion products, namely, akaganeite, goethite, hematite, jarosite, magnetite, maghemite and siderite, in iron artifacts. Identification protocols are based on square wave voltammetric measurements performed at sample-modified paraffin-impregnated graphite electrodes immersed into aqueous HCl. Abstract The population biology of painted comber Serranus scriba (Linnaeus, 1758) of the Canary Islands coast was studied to estimate gonad morphology, sexuality, age and growth. Analysis of gonad organization and development revealed that it is a functional simultaneous hermaphrodite. Its anatomy and growth pattern of the reproductive cells is similar to that described in other species of the genus Serranus , although the sequence of vesicles appearing varies during vitellogenesis. Spawning season occurred from January to September with a peak in June. Individuals reached 50% maturity at 17.3 cm TL and 95% at 22.7 cm TL.
