GrassPlot v. 2.00 : first update on the database of multi-scale plant diversity in Palaearctic grasslands

Abstract: GrassPlot is a collaborative vegetation-plot database organised by the Eurasian Dry Grassland Group (EDGG) and listed in the Global Index of Vegetation-Plot Databases (GIVD ID EU-00-003). Following a previous Long Database Report (Dengler et al. 2018, Phyto- coenologia 48, 331–347), we provide here the first update on content and functionality of GrassPlot. The current version (GrassPlot v. 2.00) contains a total of 190,673 plots of different grain sizes across 28,171 independent plots, with 4,654 nested-plot series including at least four grain sizes. Analyzing Protein-Protein Spatial-Temporal Dependencies from Image Sequences Using Fuzzy Temporal Random Sets

Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy (TIRFM) allows us to image fluorescenttagged proteins near the plasma membrane of living cells with high spatial-temporal resolution. Using TIRFM imaging of GFP-tagged clathrin endocytic proteins, areas of fluorescence are observed as overlapping spots of different sizes and durations. Standard procedures to measure protein-protein colocalization of dual labeled samples threshold the original graylevel images to segment areas covered by different proteins. Uncertainties in The S-Sebi Model to Estimate Surface Energy Fluxes Over Natural Grasslands in Brazil

Evapotranspiration (ET) is one of the main fluxes in the global water cycle. In this context, we assessed an operational methodology based on the S-SEBI model to accurately estimate energy fluxes over the natural grasslands of Pampa biome. The S-SEBI performance was investigated considering radiation data from both ERA5 reanalysis and tower flux. Comparisons from satellite-based estimates with in situ measurements were performed with and without energy balance closure (EBC). Results indicated that meteorological inputs have low sensitivity on daily ET estimates. In contrast, the instantaneous components are more affected. Fine-mapping of the B-cell epitope domain at the N-terminus of the preS2 region of the hepatitis B surface antigen

In this study, we report the exact localization and substitutional characterization of a B-cell epitope domain at the N-terminus of the preS2 region of the hepatitis B surface antigen. A set of deletion variants containing preS2 sequences of different length was generated on the basis of frCP as a carrier. It was found after Western blot analysis that three monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) (2-11B1, 3-11C2, HB.OT10) recognized the linear preS2 sequence within the amino acid (aa) stretch 3-WNSTTFHQTLQDP-13. The importance of each aa residue of the epitope was proved by comparison of antibody binding to alanine-substituted peptides in both free-peptide and Pepscan variants.

Using Landsat TM and field data to produce maps of predicted bird densities in Latvian farmland

Models of farmland bird population densities established from field surveys were applied to classified satellite data for mapping of predicted bird numbers. The field survey system was based upon point counts of birds and descriptions of their habitat within a 200 m radius. The relationship between birds and habitats was analysed by means of multiple regression analysis. The resulting regression models were coded into classified Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM+) data which had similar land cover/use classes as the field observation data. A chain of solvable non-Hermitian Hamiltonians constructed by a series of metric operators

We show how, given a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian $H$, we can generate new non-Hermitian operators sequentially, producing a virtually infinite chain of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians which are isospectral to $H$ and $H^\dagger$ and whose eigenvectors we can easily deduce in an almost automatic way; no ingredients are necessary other than $H$ and its eigensystem. To set off the chain and keep it running, we use, for the first time in our knowledge, a series of maps all connected to different metric operators. We show how the procedure works in several physically relevant systems. In particular, we apply our method to various versions of the Hatano-Nelson model and to some PT-symmetric Hamiltonians.
