The territory of Sciacca has been acoustically subdivided into homogeneous areas by the authors. In the present job, our attention is focused on the zones in class I that includes particularly sensitive areas as schools and hospitals. The acoustic climate inside and outside the hospital of Sciacca is carried out. The hospital was built on a hillock. Around the hillock two roads, an urban and a main highway are present, both with high traffic. With a campaign of measures, in proximity of the roads, in the hospital square, in the parking, and finally inside the hospital, the equivalent level and the patients exposure was calculated as Ld, Ln and DNL. Impulse noise removal on an embedded, low memory SIMD processor

Vector median filters efficiently reduce noise while preserving image details. However, their high computational complexity for color images makes them impractical for real-time systems. We propose new computationally efficient filtering algorithms, called index mapping filters (IMF). These filtering algorithms are accelerated by implementing them on a massively data parallel processor array. In addition to greater computational efficiency, these algorithms result in robust noise reduction of corrupted color images. Instability of Equilibrium States for Coupled Heat Reservoirs at Different Temperatures

Abstract We consider quantum systems consisting of a “small” system coupled to two reservoirs (called open systems). We show that such systems have no equilibrium states normal with respect to any state of the decoupled system in which the reservoirs are at different temperatures, provided that either the temperatures or the temperature difference divided by the product of the temperatures are not too small. Our proof involves an elaborate spectral analysis of a general class of generators of the dynamics of open quantum systems, including quantum Liouville operators (“positive temperature Hamiltonians”) which generate the dynamics of the systems under consideration.

Normal Coulomb Frames in $${\mathbb{R}}^{4}$$

Now we consider two-dimensional surfaces immersed in Euclidean spaces \({\mathbb{R}}^{n+2}\) of arbitrary dimension. The construction of normal Coulomb frames turns out to be more intricate and requires a profound analysis of nonlinear elliptic systems in two variables. The Euler–Lagrange equations of the functional of total torsion are identified as non-linear elliptic systems with quadratic growth in the gradient, and, more exactly, the nonlinearity in the gradient is of so-called curl-type, while the Euler–Lagrange equations appear in a div-curl-form. In this work we are interested in the global theory of planar quadratic differential systems and more precisely in the geometry of this whole class. We want to clarify some results and methods such as the isocline method or the role of rotation parameters. To this end, we recall how to associate a pencil of isoclines to each quadratic differential equation. Abstract The long-term data record (LTDR) from the Advanced Very High-Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) provides daily surface reflectance with global coverage from the 1980s to present day, making it a unique source of information for the study of land surface properties and their long-term dynamics. The experience of building and operating COMPASS RICH-1

COMPASS RICH-1 is a large size gaseous Imaging Cherenkov Detector providing hadron identification in the range from 3 to 55 GeV/c, in the wide acceptance spectrometer of the COMPASS Experiment at CERN SPS. It uses a 3 m long C(4)F(10) radiator, a 21 m(2) large VUV mirror surface and two kinds of photon detectors: MAPMTs and MWPCs with CsI photocathodes, covering a total of 5.5 m(2). It is in operation since 2002 and its performance has increased in time thanks to progressive optimization and mostly to a major upgrade which was implemented in 2006. Influence of beam conditions and energy for SEE testing

These effects are illustrated with two types of test vehicles: SRAMs and power MOSFETs. In addition, GEANT4 simulations have also been performed to better understand the results. Testing to high fluence levels is required to detect rare events. This increases the probability of nuclear interactions. Generalization of the model-independent Laurent–Pietarinen single-channel pole-extraction formalism to multiple channels

A method to extract resonance pole information from single-channel partial-wave amplitudes based on a Laurent (Mittag-Leffler) expansion and conformal mapping techniques has recently been developed. This method has been applied to a number of reactions and provides a model-independent extraction procedure which is particularly useful in cases where a set of amplitudes is available only at discrete energies. This method has been generalized and applied to the case of a multi-channel fit, where several sets of amplitudes are analyzed simultaneously. The importance of unitarity constraints is discussed.
