Before web-marketing: digital tour landscapes from relational users
2016
Online visibility of a cultural site can be considered a strong indicator of the institutional ability to activate the cultural heritage. With the spread of the Internet into social practices of millions of people, the search for contents relating to a travel destination or a specific monument, has gradually shifted in terms of strategic influence from traditional channels to online information resources. The public opinion on the quality of cultural heritages or events depends less and less from the assessment of traditional agencies and it is instead increasingly dependent on user reviews and rankings based on social network sharing activities.
Structuring didactic materials on the Web (Struct)
2009
There is an universal agreement that the structuring of didactic materials helps the student in his/her learning process when dealing with such materials. It is then important for the teacher or a student to choose among different structures so to use the one that best conveys the desired knowledge. This need is nowadays a priority also in the e-learning world since several e-learning courses exist on the web and many more are created every day. Unfortunately, most of the existing e-learning platforms offer just a single way to organize the course contents (book structure). Whoever is interested in organizing the course contents in a different way (e.g, with a concept map) must use specific…
Performance maps for an air-cooled air conditioning system as a preliminary instrument for the diagnosis of evaporator fouling
2018
During the past few decades, there has been increased interest in the development of automated approaches for detecting and diagnosing faults in air conditioning systems. One diagnostic approach involves the use of exergy analysis. As a first step towards understanding the application of exergy analysis to diagnostics, this work is focused on the thermodynamic and exergy analysis of a direct expansion air conditioning system used in small commercial building applications. The analysis was carried out by means of experimental activities on a 17.5 kW rooftop unit installed at the Herrick Laboratories, Purdue University, Indiana (USA). The system under investigation was equipped with a variabl…
Adding Autonomy to Robotic Enabled Sensing
2022
The capabilities of most non-destructive testing methods have been combined with some degree of automation in recent years, to enhance data acquisition speed, part coverage and inspection reliability. A plethora of automated or semi-automated inspection systems have been engineered to enable the robotic manipulation of specific types of sensors. Robotic inspection systems are usually operated through off-line programmed tool-paths. This approach works well when an accurate model of the part is available and the robotic inspection takes place in a well-structured environment, where the part position is precisely registered with respect to the robot reference system. However, it makes the ins…
Autonomous Robotic Sensing for Simultaneous Geometric and Volumetric Inspection of Free-Form Parts
2022
Robotic sensing is used in many sectors to improve the inspection of large and/or complex parts, enhancing data acquisition speed, part coverage and inspection reliability. Several automated or semi-automated solutions have been proposed to enable the automated deployment of specific types of sensors. The trajectory to be followed by a robotic manipulator is typically obtained through the offline programmed tool paths for the inspection of a part. This method is acceptable for a part with known geometry in a well-structured and controlled environment. The part undergoing assessment needs to be precisely registered with respect to the robot reference system. It implies the need for a setup p…

Failure mechanisms of flax/epoxy laminates with open hole: a failure map
2017
Aim of this paper is the investigation of the pin/hole contact stress and failure mechanisms of flax/epoxy composite laminates underwent to tensile bearing tests. In particular, the maximum loads and failure modes are evaluated at varying joint geometry. In order to optimize the use of composite materials in structural applications, an experimental failure map, identifying main failure modes of mechanically fastened joints, is obtained by evaluating failure modes (i.e., net tension, shear out, cleavage and bearing) as a function of the pin diameter and the position of the hole from the free edge of the laminate. Main goal of this paper is give a simple experimental methodology to support th…
Use of Time-Frequency map combined with DBSCAN algorithm for separation of partial discharge pulses under DC voltage
2022
The Phase-Resolved-Partial-Discharge pattern (PRPD) is a conventional technique used for the evaluation of partial discharges (PD) phenomena in High-Voltage-Alternating-Current (HVAC) systems. This map is constructed by plotting the peak of each detected pulses as a function of the phase angle of the supply voltage. Therefore it is obvious that this technique cannot be used for the analysis of data from PD mesaurement under different supply voltage condition (DC). The aim of this paper is to evaluate the application of the Time-Frequency map (TF map) for the analysis of a dataset obtained from PD measurement under DC voltage. A density-based clustering algorithm was also used to gain more i…
