Willem Boshoff, artist's monograph and catalogue
2013
Willem Boshoff’s work articulates around a pivotal date, April 1994, the first democratic elections in South Africa. He may choose to work gigantic rocks of granite or establish vast installations of accumulated material. The artist claims that his work is based on language, often taking the form of Dictionaries. While reviewing the main questions by artists of the twentieth century, texts or artworks from Europe are systematically tested against their South African counterpart. Boshoff’s attitude is determined by a melancholic questioning of his role as a creator linked to a political situation and cultural milieu. He discovers more dynamic ways of presenting gestures when his artistic act…

Albert O. Hirschman, Europe, and the Postwar Economic Order, 1946–52
2022
Abstract Between 1946 and 1952, Albert Hirschman worked as an economist in charge of the Western European desk of the research branch of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, DC. In this position he wrote extensively on patterns of European postwar reconstruction and the creation of a new world economic order. Given his deep knowledge and prewar experiences, Italy and France were his first areas of specialization, although Hirschman soon contributed to the analysis of the Marshall Plan, the shaping of the European Payments Union, and the problem of the dollar shortage. This article provides a comprehensive interpretation of this early stage of Hirschman's intel…
Smith, Marshall and Young on division of labour and economic growth
2003
The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the theory of division of labour and economic growth proposed by Adam Smith and developed by Alfred Marshall and Allyn Young. In their approach division of labour is the main engine of growth and plays a central role in capital accumulation and technological progress. We suggest that, according to their theory: 1) economic growth is endogenous; 2) it has the nature of a cumulative, pathdependent process; and 3) it can be described as a disequilibrium process, supported by competitive forces. We argue that these aspects make the contributions of Smith, Marshall and Young still insightful for the development of growth theory, even in the light of the mo…
Enfermar lejos de casa : la atención médica y veterinaria en los hostales de la Corona de Aragón durante la Baja Edad Media
2013
During the late Middle Ages the mobility of people was intense, for various reasons. Frequently, people stayed in hostels, which were abundant in all cities and in the countryside and where they could rest, eat and receive medical care for themselves and their horses. These hostels were favourable environments to the intervention of barbers and surgeons, because many fights resulting in injuries took place there.

COMPARING THE MARSHALL PLAN AND THE EUROPEAN NEXT GENERATION UE. Models and Legal Tools of International and Supernational Cooperation to Promote Eco…
2022
The article analyzes and compares the European Recovery Plan of 1948, commonly known as the Marshall Plan, for the reconstruction of Europe after the Second World War (paragraphs 2, 2.1, 2.2), and the Next Generation EU (paragraphs 3, 3.1) through the lens and methods of legal comparison and historical analysis. As the description of the law cannot ignore the historicization of the object of study, such comparison is carried out inductively, through the analysis of the legal mechanisms in their concrete attitudes and the construction of descriptive schemes of facts, having regard to the legal discipline, but also to the functional profiles and the context in which the rules are conceived. T…
Characterization of rubberized asphalt for railway sub-ballast. Improvements in the mix-design, performance features and rational methodology of HMA_…
2018
(STR) can be incorporated into asphalt mixtures in two different methods, which are referred to as the wet-dry process. The blending of recycled rubber (CRM) with asphalt has been used for years, and several manufacturing processes have been developed in Europe as well as in the USA. The use of a bituminous sub-ballast layer has been pointed out as an exciting alternative to the granular sub-ballast design traditionally applied in most railroad tracks. Frequently, unbound granular materials are replaced by bituminous sub-ballast that provide additional benefits to the subgrade protection. Much research has been conducted on finding other alternative material to be used as a modifier in asph…
