Dai beni comuni al comune. Diritto, Stato e storia

2016

This article – which examines the volume by Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval, Commun – intends to work out the meanings, including their historical background, which pertain to a crucial discursive field in today’s political debate: those of the terms common /commons. The goal, following Dardot and Laval multifold proposal, is to understand how to overcome the evident indeterminacy of a word such as commun. The critical analysis of the extremely complex, and frequently fuzzy, genealogies of common /commons is a fundamental step in this intellectual program, indeed a precondition for the elaboration of a convincing conceptual tool. This concept is interpreted, following the perspective outl…

The Risk Premium and the Esscher Transform in Power Markets

2012

In power markets one frequently encounters a risk premium being positive in the short end of the forward curve, and negative in the long end. Economically it has been argued that the positive premium is reflecting retailers aversion for spike risk, wheras in the long end of the forward curve the hedging pressure kicks in as in other commodity markets. Mathematically, forward prices are expressed as risk-neutral expectations of the spot at delivery. We apply the Esscher transform on power spot models based on mean-reverting processes driven by independent increment (time-inhomogeneous Levy) processes. It is shown that the Esscher transform is yielding a change of mean-reversion level. Moreov…

Violence and Proximity Violence: Links and Interpretative Developments

2020

This first chapter aims to deciphering the unresolved ties that harken back to patriarchy, a category used to justify all kinds of abuse and maltreatment of women, even in recent years. The more representations legitimizing the centuries-old exercise of control by men over women’s bodies are shared socially, the more they relegate women to positions of segregation. This is a practice typical of patriarchal systems, which tend to place the weakest subject in a position of permanent subordination. In the case of migrant women, in extreme cases, patriarchy even arrives at the dehumanization, objectification, and reification of their bodies.

2004

How Target and Acquirer Firm can Create Value in the Integration Process in Order to Learn with and of the Partner?

2014

Acquisitions between firms can create value through learning between acquirer and target firm well transferring knowledge from on partner to the other well creating new knowledge. The success in these acquisitions relies on the integration process, achieving that the knowledge of both partners is retained in the combined firm and that new knowledge is created or transferred. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that knowledge is a source of value creation in acquisitions and to analyze how firms are integrated in order to achieve knowledge transfer or knowledge creation. Specifically, we analyze three key management choices of the integration process, the autonomy level, the level of soci…

Henri Lefebvre’s lessons from the Bauhaus

2021

Throughout his writings, Henri Lefebvre made sporadic observations on the German art, design, and architecture school Bauhaus. His commentary on the Bauhaus can be read in light of his wider criticism of Modernist architecture and its political project. Despite its revolutionary aspirations, the Bauhaus provided ‘the architectural requirements of state capitalism’. This article argues that looking at Lefebvre’s ambiguous reading of the Bauhaus unveils the more complex trajectory of his thinking on Modernist utopian impulses to change society through design. Alongside his criticism of the Bauhaus as tailor made for what Lefebvre calls the neocapitalist state, his work also includes more posi…
