Abstract The human brain can automatically detect auditory changes, as indexed by the mismatch negativity of event-related potentials. The mechanisms that underlie this response are poorly understood. We recorded primary auditory cortical and hippocampal (dentate gyrus, CA1) local-field potentials to serial tones in urethane-anesthetized rats. In an oddball condition, a rare (deviant) tone ( p  = 0.11) randomly replaced a repeated (standard) tone. The deviant tone was either lower (2200, 2700, 3200, 3700 Hz) or higher (4300, 4800, 5300, 5800 Hz) in frequency than the standard tone (4000 Hz). Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a worldwide healthcare problem. Dental health care professionals are at a high risk of infection by HBV. The present study investigated the knowledge, attitude and practice of HBV infection among Saudi dental students and Interns in Saudi Arabia. Material and methods This was a questionnaire-based cross-sectional study. A self-administered questionnaire consisting of questions on students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding HBV was used. Data of 420 participants were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Studies) version 22.0. Results The response rate was 84%. Supraglottic airway devices for surfactant treatment: systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective: To compare surfactant administration via supraglottic airway device (SAD) vs. nasal CPAP alone or INSURE. Study design: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Clinicaltrials.gov was performed. Articles meeting inclusion criteria (RCT, surfactant administration via SAD, laryngeal mask, I-gel) were assessed Results: Five RCTs were eligible. A Unified Theory of Psychophysical Laws in Auditory Intensity Perception.

Psychophysical laws quantitatively relate perceptual magnitude to stimulus intensity. While most people have accepted Stevens's power function as the psychophysical law, few believe in Fechner's original idea using just-noticeable-differences (jnd) as a constant perceptual unit to educe psychophysical laws. Here I present a unified theory in hearing, starting with a general form of Zwislocki's loudness function (1965) to derive a general form of Brentano's law. Hannu Sirkkilä on tutkinut suomalais-thaimaalaisia parisuhteita 18 suomalaisen miehen kertomusten pohjalta. Kyseisten suhteiden syntyyn on liitetty vaimojen välitystoimintaa ja seksiturismia ja ne ovat saaneet kielteisen leiman. Haastatellut miehet haluavatkin tavallistaa thaimaalaisen vaimonsa ja parisuhteensa. Tämä tapahtuu kuvaamalla oma vaimo aktiivisena ja tahtovana naisena eikä alistuvana, kuten thaimaalaiset naiset esitetään stereotyyppisissä käsityksissä. Maģistra darbs izstrādāts latviešu valodā uz 49 lapaspusēm. Tas satur 15 attēlus, 4 tabulas un 113 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis: Noskaidrot, kā mainās dobās sejas uztvere, mainoties maskas atskaņošanas ātrumam. Eksperimentālajā daļā tika veikts psihofizikālais pētījums, vērtējot reakcijas laiku dobās maskas ilūzijā pie 0,8; 0,9; 1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; 7; 8; 9; 10 video atskaņošanas ātruma paātrinājumiem, kā arī tika novērtēts motorais reakcijas laiks atkarībā no vecuma. Reakcijas laiks pasliktinās, pieaugot video atskaņošanas ātrumam, kā arī tiek novērtēts, ka, sākot ar 5 paātrinājuma reizēm notiek redzes uztveres aizture, salīdzinot ar lēnākiem ātrumiem.
