MODELOS DE REPRESENTACIÓN DE LA DIVERSIDAD ÉTNICA EN LA SERIE MIRACULOUS: LAS AVENTURAS DE LADYBUG Y CAT NOIR
2021
The discussions around the role of the media in the dissemination of stereotypes through social representations have been reignited and the need for a positive media representation of ethnic diversity is recognized. Considering how the media functions as a parallel school and that children are the most vulnerable to these messages, we question what models of representation of ethnic diversity are transmitted in the children's 21st century TV series? To answer this question, we use critical discourse analysis as a methodology to access the discourses implicit in the story. We find that ethnic diversity falls on characters of color, migrants, and secondary actions. Therefore, inequalities aree…

Carbon dioxide levels during pre-hospital active compression–decompression versus standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation
1998
Abstract In a prospective randomised study we investigated end-tidal carbon dioxide levels during standard versus active compression–decompression (ACD) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) assuming that the end-tital carbon dioxide reflects cardiac output during resuscitation. In each group 60 patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest were treated either with the standard or the ACD method. End-tidal CO 2 ( p et CO 2 , mmHg) was assessed with a side-stream capnometer following intubation and then every 2 min up to 10 min or restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). There was no difference in p et CO 2 between both patient groups. However, CO 2 was significantly higher in patients wh…
The effects of muscle mass and muscle quality on cardio-metabolic risk in peripubertal girls: a longitudinal study from childhood to early adulthood.
2017
Increased cardio-metabolic risk is well documented in children and adolescents with obesity and normal weight obesity (NWO). However, the associations of muscle mass and muscle quality with cardio-metabolic risk, independent of weight status from childhood to adulthood, has not been examined. A total of 236 girls were followed from pre-puberty to early adulthood. Fat mass (FM) and lean mass (LM) of the whole body were assessed by a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry; muscle cross-sectional area (mCSA), muscle density (mDen; skeletal muscle fat content) of the lower leg by the peripheral quantitative computerized tomography; and blood glucose, insulin, triglycerides and high-density lipoprotei…
Blood and skeletal muscle ageing determined by epigenetic clocks and their associations with physical activity and functioning
2021
AbstractThe aim of this study was to investigate the correspondence of different biological ageing estimates (i.e. epigenetic age) in blood and muscle tissue and their associations with physical activity (PA), physical function and body composition. Two independent cohorts (N = 139 and N = 47) were included, whose age span covered adulthood (23–69 years). Whole blood and m. vastus lateralis samples were collected, and DNA methylation was analysed. Four different DNA methylation age (DNAmAge) estimates were calculated using genome-wide methylation data and publicly available online tools. A novel muscle-specific methylation age was estimated using the R-package ‘MEAT’. PA was measured with q…
Smooth and non-smooth traveling wave solutions of some generalized Camassa–Holm equations
2014
In this paper we employ two recent analytical approaches to investigate the possible classes of traveling wave solutions of some members of a recently-derived integrable family of generalized Camassa-Holm (GCH) equations. A recent, novel application of phase-plane analysis is employed to analyze the singular traveling wave equations of three of the GCH NLPDEs, i.e. the possible non-smooth peakon, cuspon and compacton solutions. Two of the GCH equations do not support singular traveling waves. The third equation supports four-segmented, non-smooth $M$-wave solutions, while the fourth supports both solitary (peakon) and periodic (cuspon) cusp waves in different parameter regimes. Moreover, sm…

Aunque en la actualidad pueda parecer sorprendente, los estudios sobre 'Deporte y medios de Comunicación' no se convirtieron en un área importante de la Sociologia hasta el inicio de la década de los ochenta.
Singularity tracking for Camassa-Holm and Prandtl's equations
2006
In this paper we consider the phenomenon of singularity formation for the Camassa-Holm equation and for Prandtl's equations. We solve these equations using spectral methods. Then we track the singularity in the complex plane estimating the rate of decay of the Fourier spectrum. This method allows us to follow the process of the singularity formation as the singularity approaches the real axis.
