Bit-parallel pattern matching encodes calculated values in bit arrays. This approach gains its efficiency by performing multiple updates within a machine word. An important parameter is therefore the machine word size (e.g. 32 or 64 bits). Microfinance beyond self-employment: Evidence for firms in Bulgaria

This paper provides new evidence on the impact of microfinance on job creation beyond self-employment. We examine wage-employment effects for a typical program in Eastern Europe with average loan sizes that are considerably above what has been studied so far. We apply propensity score matching extended by a difference-in-differences estimator to panel data from an individual-lending program to firms in Bulgaria. Our results indicate that microcredit has very positive effects on job creation. Participating firms have on average 2.5 (or 33 percent) more employees two years after receiving a microcredit than matched non-participants. Extending the sGLOH descriptor

This paper proposes an extension of the sGLOH keypoint descriptor [3] which improves its robustness and discriminability. The sGLOH descriptor can handle discrete rotations by a cyclic shift of its elements thanks to its circular structure, but its performance can decrease when the keypoint relative rotation is in between two sGLOH discrete rotations. The proposed extension couples together two sGLOH descriptors for the same patch with different rotations in order to cope with this issue and it can be also applied straightly to the sCOr and sGOr matching strategies of sGLOH. Post-Enlargement Return Migrants' Earnings Premium: Evidence from Latvia

The paper exploits a recent survey of over ten thousand economically active residents of Latvia; about 5% of respondents have worked abroad over the last three years, while 12% have family members with such experience. Post-enlargement labor migration from Latvia has been predominantly low-skilled, yet return migrants when compared to stayers are, on average, more educated and less likely to work as unskilled manuals. We combine instrumental variable and propensity score matching methods to study the effect of foreign experience on earnings. Abstract In a standard Diamond-Mortensen-Pissarides labour market with frictions, the authors seek to determine when there is more employment with individual wage bargaining than with collective wage bargaining, using a wage equation generated by the standard total surplus sharing rule. Using a Cobb-Douglas production function, they find that if the bargaining power of the individual is high compared to the bargaining power of the union, there is more unemployment with individual wage setting and vice versa. Asymmetric colour matching: memory matching versus simultaneous matching

We have compared corresponding pairs obtained by simultaneous matching (haploscopic matching) and by memory matching (after 10 min) using 34 reference tests selected from the Munsell Atlas (glossy), belonging to the four main hues 5Y, 5G, 5PB, and 5RP. These colours lie very close to the F1 and F2 axes in the SVF space, where we have analyzed our results. Illuminants D65 and A were used as reference and matching illuminants, respectively. Our results show for both kinds of matching a tendency to select more colourful colours than the original ones, with significant differences between matching and test colours, whereas hue does not seem to follow a definite pattern.
