Decoherence of the Exciton and Decay of the Excitonic Polaron in Quantum Dots
2005
Bulk-phonon mechanisms of decoherence of an exciton confined in a quantum dot (QD) are considered in order to establish time limitations for the coherent control of the exciton with relevance to its application in quantum information processing. These are the formation and decay of the excitonic polaron. The estimations of characteristic dephasing times for the InAs/GaAs QD are discussed.
Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov solution of the pairing Hamiltonian in finite nuclei
2013
We present an overview of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) theory of nucleonic superfluidity for finite nuclei. After introducing basic concepts related to pairing correlations, we show how the correlated pairs are incorporated into the HFB wave function. Thereafter, we present derivation and structure of the HFB equations within the superfluid nuclear density functional formalism and discuss several aspects of the theory, including the unitarity of the Bogoliubov transformation in truncated single-particle and quasiparticle spaces, form of the pairing functional, structure of the HFB continuum, regularization and renormalization of pairing fields, and treatment of pairing in systems with …
A Function Algebra Providing New Mergelyan Type Theorems in Several Complex Variables
2019
For compact sets $K\subset \mathbb C^{d}$, we introduce a subalgebra $A_{D}(K)$ of $A(K)$, which allows us to obtain Mergelyan type theorems for products of planar compact sets as well as for graphs of functions.
A concise review on pseudo-bosons, pseudo-fermions and their relatives
2017
We review some basic definitions and few facts recently established for $\D$-pseudo bosons and for pseudo-fermions. We also discuss an extended version of these latter, based on biorthogonal bases, which lives in a finite dimensional Hilbert space. Some examples are described in details.
Generation of Non-Classical States through QND-like Processes
2007
In the spirit of quantum nondemolition measurement we show that repeatedly measuring the atomic state of a trapped ion subjected to suitable vibronic couplings it is possible to extract interesting nonclassical states. The possibility of generating angular momentum Schrödinger cat is demonstrated.
Three-mode two-boson Jaynes–Cummings model in trapped ions
2006
In this paper, we analyse a two-boson three-mode Jaynes–Cummings model which can be implemented in the context of trapped ions. The symmetries of the Hamiltonian are brought to light and analysed in detail in order to solve the eigenvalue problem. The calculation of the time evolution operator shows the possibility of realizing interesting applications, such as the generation of nonclassical states.
(Regular) pseudo-bosons versus bosons
2012
We discuss in which sense the so-called {\em regular pseudo-bosons}, recently introduced by Trifonov and analyzed in some details by the author, are related to ordinary bosons. We repeat the same analysis also for {\em pseudo-bosons}, and we analyze the role played by certain intertwining operators, which may be bounded or not.
Critical Behavior for Correlated Strongly Coupled Boson Systems in 1 + 1 Dimensions
1994
The natural integrable correlated strongly coupled boson system in 1 + 1 dimensions is the $q$-boson hopping model; we calculate its critical exponent $\ensuremath{\theta}$ and determine its correlation functions. For small couplings the $q$-boson model has natural connections with the Bose gas and the $\mathrm{XY}$ models of very large spin for which $\ensuremath{\theta}'\mathrm{s}$ and correlators are reported. For large couplings the hopping model is a new phase of interacting bosons substantially different from the impenetrable Bose gas.
Brownian dynamics of polydisperse colloidal hard spheres: Equilibrium structures and random close packings
1994
Recently we presented a new technique for numerical simulations of colloidal hard-sphere systems and showed its high efficiency. Here, we extend our calculations to the treatment of both 2- and 3-dimensional monodisperse and 3-dimensional polydisperse systems (with sampled finite Gaussian size distribution of particle radii), focusing on equilibrium pair distribution functions and structure factors as well as volume fractions of random close packing (RCP). The latter were determined using in principle the same technique as Woodcock or Stillinger had used. Results for the monodisperse 3-dimensional system show very good agreement compared to both pair distribution and structure factor predic…
Didactical note: probabilistic conditionality in a Boolean algebra
1996
This note deals with two logical topics and concerns Boolean Algebras from an elementary point of view. First we consider the class of operations on a Boolean Algebra that can be used for modelling ``If-then" propositions. These operations, or Conditionals, are characterized under the hypothesis that they only obey to the Modus Ponens-Inequality, and it is shown that only six of them are boolean two-place functions. Is the Conditional Probability the Probability of a Conditional? This problem will be only considered, with the Material Conditional Operation, on a Boolean Algebra endowed with a finite probability and in three different cases: with the Internal-Conditional Probability, with th…
