Functional A Posteriori Error Estimate for a Nonsymmetric Stationary Diffusion Problem

In this paper, a posteriori error estimates of functional type for a stationary diffusion problem with nonsymmetric coefficients are derived. The estimate is guaranteed and does not depend on any particular numerical method. An algorithm for the global minimization of the error estimate with respect to an auxiliary function over some finite dimensional subspace is presented. In numerical tests, global minimization is done over the subspace generated by Raviart-Thomas elements. The improvement of the error bound due to the p-refinement of these spaces is investigated.
The ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger

The ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger uses reduced-granularity information from all the ATLAS calorimeters to search for high transverse-energy electrons, photons, tau leptons and jets, as well as high missing and total transverse energy. The calorimeter trigger electronics has a fixed latency of about 1 microsecond, using programmable custom-built digital electronics. This paper describes the Calorimeter Trigger hardware, as installed in the ATLAS electronics cavern.
What a Friend We Have in Facebook : Norwegian Christian Churches’ Use of Social Media

This study examines how Christian churches in Norway use social media. The key finding is that the churches do not take extensive advantage of the opportunities for two-way communication offered by the platforms, but primarily use their social media channels to promote church activities or broadcast content without inviting a dialogue. Based on the churches’ own stated appreciation for building relationships, as well as existing research from media and communication studies, media and religion studies, and studies within strategic communication, this article argues for a stronger focus on the ritual and relational aspects of online communication from the church organizations. Why Don't We Do What We Want? Non-Consumers and the Public Dilemma in Cultural Promotion

We deal with tastes and preferences, revising the linkages between both in order to analyse the special case where we express preferences to goods that do not appeal to us. We deduce the concept of a deconstructed demand and define two types of goods (embarrassing and reputable). With the help of this structure we build a demand function for cultural promotion, where the non-market-expressed non-consumers' preferences are the basis of the demand for cultural policies. Finally, in this framework the State faces a dilemma that could be solved in different ways.
Singular systems in dimension 3: Cuspidal case and tangent elliptic flat case

We study two singular systems in R3. The first one is affine in control and we achieve weighted blowings-up to prove that singular trajectories exist and that they are not locally time optimal. The second one is linear in control. The characteristic vector field in sub-Riemannian geometry is generically singular at isolated points in dimension 3. We define a case with symmetries, which we call flat, and we parametrize the sub-Riemannian sphere. This sphere is subanalytic.

Abstract In this paper the stage-discharge equation of a half-cycle cosine weir is theoretically deduced applying the Π-Theorem of dimensional analysis and the self-similarity theory. Batch fermentation process: Modelling and direct sensitivity analysis

Based on a nonlinear model, this article realizes an investigation of dynamic behaviour of a batch fermentation process using direct sensitivity analysis (DSA). The used nonlinear mathematical model has a good qualitative and quantitative description of the alcoholic fermentation process. This model has been discussed and validated by authors in other studies. The DSA of dynamic model was used to calculate the matrix of the sensitivity functions in order to determine the influence of the small deviations of initial state, control inputs, and parameters from the ideal nominal values on the state trajectory and system output in time. Abstract On the Riemannian path space we consider the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck operator associated to the Dirichlet form E (f,g)=E〈 ∇ f, ∇ g〉 H , where ∇ is the damped gradient and 〈·,·〉 H the scalar product of the Cameron–Martin space H . We prove a corresponding Weitzenbock formula restricted to adapted vector fileds: the Ricci-tensor is shown to be equal to the identity.
Geometry and analysis of Dirichlet forms (II)

Abstract Given a regular, strongly local Dirichlet form E , under assumption that the lower bound of the Ricci curvature of Bakry–Emery, the local doubling and local Poincare inequalities are satisfied, we obtain that: (i) the intrinsic differential and distance structures of E coincide; (ii) the Cheeger energy functional Ch d E is a quadratic norm. This shows that (ii) is necessary for the Riemannian Ricci curvature defined by Ambrosio–Gigli–Savare to be bounded from below. This together with some recent results of Ambrosio–Gigli–Savare yields that the heat flow gives a gradient flow of Boltzman–Shannon entropy under the above assumptions.
