Naming speed and Effortful and Automatic Inhibition in Children with Arithmetic Learning Disabilities
2009
Abstract We report a two-year longitudinal study aimed at investigating the rate of access to numerical and non-numerical information in long-term memory and the functioning of automatic and effortful cognitive inhibition processes in children with arithmetical learning disabilities (ALDs). Twelve children with ALDs, of age 9.3 years, and twelve gender–age-matched controls were involved in the study. Rate of access was measured through digit- and letter-naming tasks, automatic cognitive inhibition was measured using a negative priming paradigm, and effortful cognitive inhibition was measured rating intrusion errors in a working memory task. Children with ALDs suffered from a deficit in the …
Denjoy and P-path integrals on compact groups in an inversion formula for multiplicative transforms
2009
Abstract Denjoy and P-path Kurzweil-Henstock type integrals are defined on compact subsets of some locally compact zero-dimensional abelian groups. Those integrals are applied to obtain an inversion formula for the multiplicative integral transform.
Existence Results for Periodic Boundary Value Problems with a Convenction Term
2020
By using an abstract coincidence point theorem for sequentially weakly continuous maps the existence of at least one positive solution is obtained for a periodic second order boundary value problem with a reaction term involving the derivative \(u'\) of the solution u: the so called convention term. As a consequence of the main result also the existence of at least one positive solution is obtained for a parameter-depending problem.
Extension of representations in quasi *-algebras
2009
Let $(A, A_o)$ be a topological quasi *-algebra, which means in particular that $A_o$ is a topological *-algebra, dense in $A$. Let $\pi^o$ be a *-representation of $A_o$ in some pre-Hilbert space ${\cal D} \subset {\cal H}$. Then we present several ways of extending $\pi^o$, by closure, to some larger quasi *-algebra contained in $A$, either by Hilbert space operators, or by sesquilinear forms on ${\cal D}$. Explicit examples are discussed, both abelian and nonabelian, including the CCR algebra.
Coherent Conditional Previsions and Proper Scoring Rules
2012
In this paper we study the relationship between the notion of coherence for conditional prevision assessments on a family of finite conditional random quantities and the notion of admissibility with respect to bounded strictly proper scoring rules. Our work extends recent results given by the last two authors of this paper on the equivalence between coherence and admissibility for conditional probability assessments. In order to prove that admissibility implies coherence a key role is played by the notion of Bregman divergence.

Distance Measures for Portfolio Selection
2017
The classical Markowitz approach to the portfolio selection problem (PSP) consists of selecting the portfolio that minimises the return variance for a given level of expected return. By solving the problem for different values of this expected return we obtain the Pareto efficient frontier, which is composed of non-dominated portfolios. The final user has to discriminate amongst these points by resorting to an external criterion in order to decide which portfolio to invest in. We propose to define an external portfolio that corresponds to a desired criterion, and to assess its distance from the Markowitz frontier in market allowing for short-sellings or not. We show that this distance is ab…
Hochschild Cohomology Theories in White Noise Analysis
2008
We show that the continuous Hochschild cohomology and the differential Hochschild cohomology of the Hida test algebra endowed with the normalized Wick product are the same.
Cloaking In-Plane Elastic Waves with Swiss Rolls
2020
We propose a design of cylindrical cloak for coupled in-plane shear waves consisting of concentric layers of sub-wavelength resonant stress-free inclusions shaped as Swiss rolls. The scaling factor between inclusions&rsquo
Buckling of Elastic Beam Under Unilateral Constraint
1988
ABSTRACT A criterion is proposed to calculate the critical load of a continuous beam under unilateral constraint. The beam is assumed to be built in at the ends and to rest on equally spaced elastic supports, that have equal stiffness. The problem is solved by determining the length of the half-wave of the buckled shape, the number of supports involved, and their position with respect to the end of the half-wave. The analysis model thus defined is determined in relation to the geometry of the beam and to the ratio between the stiffness of the supports and the shearing stiffness of the generic span. It is shown that there exists a limiting value of this ratio, below which the critical load i…
