TB-Structure: Collective Intelligence for Exploratory Keyword Search

2017

In this paper we address an exploratory search challenge by presenting a new (structure-driven) collaborative filtering technique. The aim is to increase search effectiveness by predicting implicit seeker’s intents at an early stage of the search process. This is achieved by uncovering behavioral patterns within large datasets of preserved collective search experience. We apply a specific tree-based data structure called a TB (There-and-Back) structure for compact storage of search history in the form of merged query trails – sequences of queries approaching iteratively a seeker’s goal. The organization of TB-structures allows inferring new implicit trails for the prediction of a seeker’s i…

A Morphosyntactical Complementary Structure for Searching and Browsing

2006

This paper is a proposal for the construction of a pseudo-net built with precisely defined tokens describing the content and structure of the original WWW. This construction is derived by morphosyntactical analysis and should be structured with a post-processing mechanism. It is provided also an in-depth analysis of requirements and hypothesis to be stated to accomplish with this goal. An in-depth analysis of requirements and hypothesis to be stated to accomplish this goal is also provided. Such derived structure could act as an alternate network theme organization with a compacted version of the original web material. This paper does not describe nor study the post-processing approaches. I…

Abstract. The coupling of Earth system model components, which work on different grids, into an Earth System Model (ESM) provokes the necessity to transfer data from one grid to another. Additionally, each of these model components might require data import onto its specific grid. Usually, one of two approaches is used: Either all input data is preprocessed to the employed grid, or the imported data is interpolated on-line, i.e. during model integration to the required grid. For the former, each change in the model resolution requires the re-preprocessing of all data. The latter option implies that in each model integration computing time is required for the grid mapping. If all components …

Uses and Abuses of Creativity. Sociology of creative processes, transitions to digital and creative policies

2017

Creativity is a notion awakening growing interest in the social sciences. This attention mirrors the debate on the potential economic and social development of creativity as a skill, profession or industry. However, there is also rising critical interpretation of the abuse of this concept, exploited to legitimize the hasty digitization of the cultural field, and of the instrumentalization of culture in pursuit of economic interests. This article is grounded on the contributions of numerous sociologists (Bourdieu, Collins and Menger) in an attempt to reconsider the conditions under which creativity develops, and examine how the framework of digitalization and instrumentalization is shifting …

Biproportional Method for Analysing Interindustry Dynamics: the case of France

1990

Two elements are being presented in this paper: (1) A new and original method for analysing matrix dynamics, called the synthetical biproportional projector method (SBP), which can be used to project input–output tables and compare one with another. (2) Some results for France for the important period 1970–85. The paper starts with the observation that no systematic study of the change in the French productive structure as displayed In the input–output tables (tableaux entries-sorties in France) has ever been made. This is unfortunate, since a complete series of data is now available concerning a key period of the French economic evolution including the petroleum crisis, European integratio…

Developing an Understanding of Organisational Knowledge Creation: A Review Framework

2017

The purpose of this paper is to develop an understanding of the dimensions of organisational knowledge creation. To this end, the literature from numerous bodies of research is reviewed. Over the past 20 years, the literature on organisational knowledge creation has significantly grown and advanced. Many new and conflicting terminologies have evolved to shed more light on the subject. As a result, there are overlaps and conflicts in the literature. The framework suggested in this paper is therefore considered to be a useful means to structure further research on the subject. This paper presents an extensive review of the organisational knowledge creation literature as well as an overview of…

Groups are not always the same

1993

The idea of supporting group meetings at the same time and at the same place by computer raises the problem of how salient features of group behaviors are understood in meetings. In this paper we take a critical look at several beliefs about group behaviors in research dealing with electronic meeting systems (EMS). The paper argues based on an empirical study that the concept of a small, cohesive business team, so widely held, in all EMS research is not necessarily a valid starting point in thinking of meeting support. In particular, the paper critically evaluates a number of beliefs of user aspects, group features such as composition, structure and protocols, and task characteristics such …

The integration of information technologies in the knowledge based organizations

2016

Relations between the users' expertise, complexity of tasks to be solved by knowledge-based organizations and mission of smart information systems, is a multi-dimensional structure that should provide the necessary conceptual framework of sustainable integrated smart development. The users of smart information systems face a variety of problems, such as: system access, data recovery, identifying and retrieving a specific document and its contents, and difficulties associated with understanding and interpreting of the used system on stages and methods following to be used, respectively problems on understanding the meaning of information provided. Using smart information systems and smart da…

Can Artificial Intelligence Interprete Legal Norms? A Problem of Practical Reason

2021

The Neural Basis of Idea Density During Natural Spoken Language

2019

Idea density (ID) evolved as a quantification of propositional base structure. Besides its function as a measure of linguistic complexity, ID has also been used as an index of general linguistic ability. In order to find the neural basis for the processing of high or low ID during spontaneous speech, a sample of healthy adults was assessed using the functional resonance imaging (fMRI) technique; participants described pictures presented to them while in the scanner. Differential patterns of activation were observed for the low- and high-ID conditions, providing new insights into the processing correlates of ID.
