On the Problem of Well-Posedness for the Radon Transform

In this note, we first discuss some continuity and discontinuity properties of the inverse Radon transform (R.t.). Any such property gives a positive (or negative) answer to the question, whether under certain contitions the problem of inverting the R.t. is well-posed.

Exact, efficient, and complete arrangement computation for cubic curves

AbstractThe Bentley–Ottmann sweep-line method can compute the arrangement of planar curves, provided a number of geometric primitives operating on the curves are available. We discuss the reduction of the primitives to the analysis of curves and curve pairs, and describe efficient realizations of these analyses for planar algebraic curves of degree three or less. We obtain a complete, exact, and efficient algorithm for computing arrangements of cubic curves. Special cases of cubic curves are conics as well as implicitized cubic splines and Bézier curves.The algorithm is complete in that it handles all possible degeneracies such as tangential intersections and singularities. A Unifying Approach to Weyl Type Theorems for Banach Space Operators

Weyl type theorems have been proved for a considerably large number of classes of operators. In this paper, by introducing the class of quasi totally hereditarily normaloid operators, we obtain a theoretical and general framework from which Weyl type theorems may be promptly established for many of these classes of operators. This framework also entails Weyl type theorems for perturbations f(T + K), where K is algebraic and commutes with T, and f is an analytic function, defined on an open neighborhood of the spectrum of T + K, such that f is non constant on each of the components of its domain.

The branch set of a quasiregular mapping between metric manifolds

Abstract In this note, we announce some new results on quantitative countable porosity of the branch set of a quasiregular mapping in very general metric spaces. As applications, we solve a recent conjecture of Fassler et al., an open problem of Heinonen–Rickman, and an open question of Heinonen–Semmes.

Random analysis of geometrically non-linear FE modelled structures under seismic actions

Abstract In the framework of the finite element (FE) method, by using the “total Lagrangian approach”, the stochastic analysis of geometrically non-linear structures subjected to seismic inputs is performed. For this purpose the equations of motion are written with the non-linear contribution in an explicit representation, as pseudo-forces, and with the ground motion modelled as a filtered non-stationary white noise Gaussian process, using a Tajimi-Kanai-like filter. Extremal problems of approximation theory in fuzzy context

Abstract The problem of approximation of a fuzzy subset of a normed space is considered. We study the error of approximation, which in this case is characterized by an L -fuzzy number. In order to do this we define the supremum of an L -fuzzy set of real numbers as well as the supremum and the infimum of a crisp set of L -fuzzy numbers. The introduced concepts allow us to investigate the best approximation and the optimal linear approximation. In particular, we consider approximation of a fuzzy subset in the space L p m of differentiable functions in the L q -metric. Minimal varieties of algebras of exponential growth

Abstract The exponent of a variety of algebras over a field of characteristic zero has been recently proved to be an integer. Through this scale we can now classify all minimal varieties of given exponent and of finite basic rank. As a consequence, we describe the corresponding T-ideals of the free algebra and we compute the asymptotics of the related codimension sequences, verifying in this setting some known conjectures. We also show that the number of these minimal varieties is finite for any given exponent. We finally point out some relations between the exponent of a variety and the Gelfand–Kirillov dimension of the corresponding relatively free algebras of finite rank.
