Flat synchronizations in spherically symmetric space-times

It is well known that the Schwarzschild space-time admits a spacelike slicing by flat instants and that the metric is regular at the horizon in the associated adapted coordinates (Painleve-Gullstrand metric form). We consider this type of flat slicings in an arbitrary spherically symmetric space-time. The condition ensuring its existence is analyzed, and then, we prove that, for any spherically symmetric flat slicing, the densities of the Weinberg momenta vanish. Finally, we deduce the Schwarzschild solution in the extended Painleve-Gullstrand-Lemaitre metric form by considering the coordinate decomposition of the vacuum Einstein equations with respect to a flat spacelike slicing.

Some topological properties of the Inverse Lens Mapping

Away from critical curves, lens mapping can be seen as a linear invertible transformation of the plane even for regions (cells) of relatively large size. However, close to critical curves the departures from linearity can be very strong. We discuss the topological problems induced by the mapping of regions of the image plane that include critical curves (critical cells).

The cohomology of a variation of polarized Hodge structures over a quasi-compact Kähler manifold

In this article, we consider the cohomologies with coefficients in a variation of polarized Hodge structures on a quasi-compact Kaehler manifold. We show that the L 2 L^2 -Dolbeault cohomology can be identified with the L 2 L^2 cohomology; we also give several direct applications of the result above.

The finite element method approach is used to obtain formulations of analysis problems relative to elastic-plastic structures when subjected to prescribed programmes of loads, and under the restrictive hypotheses:a) the yielding surfaces are piecewise linearized, andb) the plastic flow-laws are supposed to be of holonomic type within a single “finite” time interval. The “λ-medial axis”

Medial axis is known to be unstable for nonsmooth objects. For an open set O, we define the weak feature size, wfs, minimum distance between Oc and the critical points of the function distance to Oc. We introduce the "lambda-medial axis" Mλ of O, a subset of the medial axis of O which captures the homotopy type of O when λ < wfs. We show that, at least for some "regular" values of λ, Mλ remains stable under Hausdorff distance perturbations of Oc.

Modified post-bifurcation dynamics and routes to chaos from double-Hopf bifurcations in a hyperchaotic system

In order to understand the onset of hyperchaotic behavior recently observed in many systems, we study bifurcations in the modified Chen system leading from simple dynamics into chaotic regimes. In particular, we demonstrate that the existence of only one fixed point of the system in all regions of parameter space implies that this simple point attractor may only be destabilized via a Hopf or double Hopf bifurcation as system parameters are varied. Saddle-node, transcritical and pitchfork bifurcations are precluded. The normal form immediately following double Hopf bifurcations is constructed analytically by the method of multiple scales. FLUCTUATION-INDUCED LOCAL OSCILLATIONS AND FRACTAL PATTERNS IN THE LATTICE LIMIT CYCLE MODEL

The fractal properties of the Lattice Limit Cycle model are explored when the process is realized on a 2-dimensional square lattice support via Monte Carlo Simulations. It is shown that the structure of the steady state presents inhomogeneous fluctuations in the form of domains of identical particles. The various domains compete with one another via their borders which have self-similar, fractal structure. The fractality is more prominent, (fractal dimensions df &lt; 2), when the parameter values are near the critical point where the Hopf bifurcation occurs. Post-Double Hopf Bifurcation Dynamics and Adaptive Synchronization of a Hyperchaotic System

In this paper a four-dimensional hyperchaotic system with only one equilibrium is considered and its double Hopf bifurcations are investigated. The general post-bifurcation and stability analysis are carried out using the normal form of the system obtained via the method of multiple scales. The dynamics of the orbits predicted through the normal form comprises possible regimes of periodic solutions, two-period tori, and three-period tori in parameter space. Moreover, we show how the hyperchaotic synchronization of this system can be realized via an adaptive control scheme. Numerical simulations are included to show the effectiveness of the designed control.

Invariant circles in the Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation for diffeomorphisms

AbstractWe study a generic, real analytic unfolding of a planar diffeomorphism having a fixed point with unipotent linear part. In the analogue for vector fields an open parameter domain is known to exist, with a unique limit cycle. This domain is bounded by curves corresponding to a Hopf bifurcation and to a homoclinic connection. In the present case of analytic diffeomorphisms, a similar domain is shown to exist, with a normally hyperbolic invariant circle. Turing Instability and Pattern Formation for the Lengyel–Epstein System with Nonlinear Diffusion

In this work we study the effect of density dependent nonlinear diffusion on pattern formation in the Lengyel---Epstein system. Via the linear stability analysis we determine both the Turing and the Hopf instability boundaries and we show how nonlinear diffusion intensifies the tendency to pattern formation; in particular, unlike the case of classical linear diffusion, the Turing instability can occur even when diffusion of the inhibitor is significantly slower than activator's one.
