Isolation of the left atrial surface from cardiac multi-detector CT images based on marker controlled watershed segmentation

The delineation of left atrium (LA) and pulmonary veins (PVs) anatomy from high resolution images holds importance for atrial fibrillation (AF) investigation and treatment. In this study, a semiautomatic segmentation procedure for LA and PVs inner surface from contrast enhanced CT data was developed. The procedure consists of a three dimensional marker controlled watershed segmentation applied to the external morphological gradient, followed by variable threshold surface extraction from the original intensity image. Detection and Isolation of Switches in Point Clouds of the German Railway Network

In order to obtain an automated system of railway management, it is necessary to automatically detect, isolate and identify all switches in a point cloud which represents the railway. To realize this automated system of detection, a set of pre-processing steps is applied. The system begins by detecting and isolating tracks through application of a mask on each section of the point cloud. Then, it does a denoising through mathematical morphology and a compression in replacing a group of points by their centroid. Finally, it closes tracks holes through extrapolation. Using mathematical morphology for unsupervised classification of functional data

This paper is concerned with the unsupervised classification of functional data by using mathematical morphology. Different morphological operators are used to extract relevant structures of the functions (considered as sets through their subgraph representations). These operators can be considered as preprocessing tools whose outputs are also functional data. Erosion–dilation analysis for experimental and synthetic microstructures of sedimentary rock

Abstract Microstructures such as rock samples or simulated structures can be described and characterized by means of ideas of spatial statistics and mathematical morphology. A powerful approach is to transform a given 3D structure by operations of mathematical morphology such as dilation and erosion. This leads to families of structures, for which various characteristics can be determined, for example, porosity, specific connectivity number or correlation and connectivity functions. An application of this idea leads to a clear discrimination between a sample of Fontainebleau sandstone and two simulated samples.

Many image processing tasks need some kind of average of different shapes. Frequently, different shapes obtained from several images have to be summarized. If these shapes can be considered as different realizations of a given random compact set, then the natural summaries are the different mean sets proposed in the literature. Tomographic image processing for the morphological and metrological study of Valsalva sinuses

This Phd thesis deals with the design and the use of image processing tools in order to allow a reliable and objective study of the sinuses of Valsalva which are important cavities of the aortic root. The proposed methods can be applied on cine-MR sequences and CT examinations without any change in the settings between two examinations.Firstly, we studied the morphology of this anatomical area and its constant properties in all images of the dataset. Needle-shape quality control by shadowgraphic image processing

International audience; We propose a needle-shape quality-control method. To this end, we have devised a new acquisition system that combines a camera and a backlight. Needle measurements are carried out at a micrometric scale using shadowgraphic image processing. Our method not only distinguishes good needles from bad ones, but also allows classifying flawed needles into various categories of defects. This classification is important because some categories of defects can affect the entire production, whereas others do not. Maģistra darbā apskatīti matemātiskās morfoloģijas pamatoperatoru - dilācija, erozija, atvēršana, slēgšana - paplašinājumi nestriktās kopās. Vispārīga nestrikta morfoloģijas operatora definīcija realizēta konkrētiem konjunktoru-implikātoru pāriem. Operatoru realizācijā par konjunktoriem izvēlētas minimuma, reizinājuma un Lukasieviča t-normas un par implikatoriem - tām atbilstošie rezidiji un Klīnī-Dinesa implikācija. Konkrētie konjunktoru-implikatoru pāriem iegūtie operatori ilustrēti ar vizuāliem piemēriem, to realizācijai izstrādāta arī lietojumprogramma. Veikta iegūto rezultātu analīze.
