Beyond the triangle and uniqueness relations: non-zeta counterterms at large $N$ from positive knots

Counterterms that are not reducible to ζn are generated by 3F2 hypergeometric series arising from diagrams for which triangle and uniqueness relations furnish insufficient data. Irreducible double sums, corresponding to the torus knots (4, 3) = 819 and (5, 3) = 10124, are found in anomalous dimensions at O(1/N 3) in the large-N limit, which we compute analytically up to terms of level 11, corresponding to 11 loops for 4-dimensional field theories and 12 loops for 2-dimensional theories. High-precision numerical results are obtained up to 24 loops and used in Pade resummations of e-expansions, which are compared with analytical results in 3 dimensions. The Oort conjecture on Shimura curves in the Torelli locus of hyperelliptic curves

Abstract Oort has conjectured that there do not exist Shimura varieties of dimension >0 contained generically in the Torelli locus of genus-g curves when g is sufficiently large. In this paper we prove the analogue of this conjecture for Shimura curves with respect to the hyperelliptic Torelli locus of genus g > 7 .
Homeomorphic graph manifolds: A contribution to the μ constant problem

Abstract We give a characterization, in terms of homological data in covering spaces, of those maps between (3-dimensional) graph manifolds which are homotopic to homeomorphisms. As an application we give a condition on a cobordism between graph manifolds that guarantees that they are homeomorphic. This in turn is applied to give a partial result on the μ -constant problem in (complex) dimension three.
Regularity of the Inverse of a Sobolev Homeomorphism

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the inverse ofa Sobolev homeomorphism to be a Sobolev homeomorphism and conditions under which the inverse is of bounded variation.
Appendix: Diophantine Approximation on Hyperbolic Surfaces

In this (independent) appendix, we study the Diophantine approximation properties for the particular case of the cusped hyperbolic surfaces, in the spirit of Sect. 2 (or [11]), and the many still open questions that arise for them. We refer to [9], [10]for fundamental results and further developments. We study in particular the distance to a cusp of closed geodesics on a hyperbolic surface.
Vassiliev invariants for braids on surfaces

We show that Vassiliev invariants separate braids on a closed oriented surface, and we exhibit an universal Vassiliev invariant for these braids in terms of chord diagrams labeled by elements of the fundamental group of the considered surface.
Seifert manifolds admitting partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms

We characterize which 3-dimensional Seifert manifolds admit transitive partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. In particular, a circle bundle over a higher-genus surface admits a transitive partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism if and only if it admits an Anosov flow.
Volume-convergent sequences of Haken 3-manifolds

Abstract Let M be a closed orientable 3-manifold and let Vol(M) denote its Gromov simplicial volume. This paper is devoted to the study of sequences of non-zero degree maps f i :M→N i to Haken manifolds. We prove that any sequence of Haken manifolds (Ni,fi), satisfying limi→∞deg(fi)×Vol(Ni)=Vol(M) is finite up to homeomorphism. As an application, we deduce from this fact that any closed orientable 3-manifold with zero Gromov simplicial volume and in particular any graph manifold dominates at most finitely many Haken 3-manifolds.
