Comprehensive analysis of forty yeast microarray datasets reveals a novel subset of genes (APha-RiB) consistently negatively associated with ribosome…
2014
Background The scale and complexity of genomic data lend themselves to analysis using sophisticated mathematical techniques to yield information that can generate new hypotheses and so guide further experimental investigations. An ensemble clustering method has the ability to perform consensus clustering over the same set of genes from different microarray datasets by combining results from different clustering methods into a single consensus result. Results In this paper we have performed comprehensive analysis of forty yeast microarray datasets. One recently described Bi-CoPaM method can analyse expressions of the same set of genes from various microarray datasets while using different cl…
Impairments in proverb interpretation following focal frontal lobe lesions.
2012
The proverb interpretation task (PIT) is often used in clinical settings to evaluate frontal “executive” dysfunction. However, only a relatively small number of studies have investigated the relationship between frontal lobe lesions and performance on the PIT. We compared 52 patients with unselected focal frontal lobe lesions with 52 closely matched healthy controls on a proverb interpretation task. Participants also completed a battery of neuropsychological tests, including a fluid intelligence task (Raven’s Advanced Progressive Matrices). Lesions were firstly analysed according to a standard left/right sub-division. Secondly, a finer-grained analysis compared the performance of patients w…
Higher order matrix differential equations with singular coefficient matrices
2014
In this article, the class of higher order linear matrix differential equations with constant coefficient matrices and stochastic process terms is studied. The coefficient of the highest order is considered to be singular; thus, rendering the response determination of such systems in a straightforward manner a difficult task. In this regard, the notion of the generalized inverse of a singular matrix is used for determining response statistics. Further, an application relevant to engineering dynamics problems is included.
Maximum likelihood estimation for the exponential power function parameters
1995
This paper addresses the problem of obtaining maximum likelihood estimates for the three parameters of the exponential power function; the information matrix is derived and the covariance matrix is here presented; the regularity conditions which ensure asymptotic normality and efficiency are examined. A numerical investigation is performed for exploring the bias and variance of the maximum likelihood estimates and their dependence on sample size and shape parameter.
Trace Identities on Diagonal Matrix Algebras
2020
Let Dn be the algebra of n × n diagonal matrices. On such an algebra it is possible to define very many trace functions. The purpose of this paper is to present several results concerning trace identities satisfied by this kind of algebras.
Evaluation de la concurrence généralisée : un outil matriciel
1993
Input-output matrices and structural analysis are applied to the analysis and forecast of consequences of offensive actions in the case of multiproduct multimarket large firms.
Sector identification in a set of stock return time series traded at the London Stock Exchange
2005
We compare some methods recently used in the literature to detect the existence of a certain degree of common behavior of stock returns belonging to the same economic sector. Specifically, we discuss methods based on random matrix theory and hierarchical clustering techniques. We apply these methods to a portfolio of stocks traded at the London Stock Exchange. The investigated time series are recorded both at a daily time horizon and at a 5-minute time horizon. The correlation coefficient matrix is very different at different time horizons confirming that more structured correlation coefficient matrices are observed for long time horizons. All the considered methods are able to detect econo…
Genericity of dimension drop on self-affine sets
2017
We prove that generically, for a self-affine set in $\mathbb{R}^d$, removing one of the affine maps which defines the set results in a strict reduction of the Hausdorff dimension. This gives a partial positive answer to a folklore open question.
Models with three Higgs doublets in the triplet representations of A4 or S4
2013
We consider the quark sector of theories containing three scalar SU(2)(L) doublets in the triplet representation of A(4) (or S-4) and three generations of quarks in arbitrary A(4) (or S-4) representations. We show that for all possible choices of quark field representations and for all possible alignments of the Higgs vacuum expectation values that can constitute global minima of the scalar potential, it is not possible to obtain simultaneously nonvanishing quark masses and a nonvanishing CP-violating phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix. As a result, in this minimal form, models with three scalar fields in the triplet representation of A(4) or S-4 cannot be extended t…
